Ha!

All of you guys moaning about the price of the 20D…The UK Street price for the 20D is around £1050 body only. The 10D was £1600 when it was first released. So the new 20D is a LOT cheaper than the 10D when it was first released.

The EFs 17-85 mm is NOT overpriced, it’s just new. When I bought my 28-135mm with my Eos30 (Some 4 years ago, I belive that the D30 hadn’t even been released then) the lens cost me £450 and the rep told me that they’ve just come down in price. So this new lens isn’t over priced, it’s just new. Give it 6 months and it’ll be selling for the same price.

Please stop moaning about cost blah blah blah. If it’s too rich for your blood, don’t buy it. If you can aspire to it, don't complain about it until you've tired one.

... I have been thinking exactly the same thing. Look, the 20D has the same official price as the 10D had (not what you find on the net). And, from what I can tell, the 20D has NOT 1 disadvantage or feature loss compared to the 10D. If history repeats itself, the 20D will likely be a few $100 less in 4 to 6 months, and maybe more so in a year. I see no reason to complain, not 1.

I spent 2100 on my d60, and was blown away by it. It transformed my photographic experience. Expensive. Loved it. Absolutely loved it. Even with its problems.

I traded "up" to my 10d, for the small sum of $500. WOW it was amazing. Still is. 15000 shots later I still love it. Priceless shots. Faster, lower light useability, great camera.

Now I'm selling the 10d to a relative and upgrading to the 20d for a net cost of, you guessed it, $500. The improvements will help me get shots that I miss right now.

SO overall, I will have spent over $3000 just on the digital body (not including lenses, CF, flash, etc...). Hard to swallow in the wallet, but ABSOLUTELY worth it for me.

And I can't wait for the 20d.

So I tend to agree with you. If you are nickel-and-diming it, you're focusing on the wrong thing (what's in your wallet instead of what's in front of the lens).

Fire away!

I would say that the new 20d is worth $3000 to me. It's an amazing camera. So even if I hadn't gone through the d60 and 10d, and had to pay $3000 now, it would probably be worth it (not that I'd be able to take a hit that big all at once, but still).

At $1500 it's absolutely a steal!

Actually, the RAW buffer is 6 frames instead of 10D's 9. I know, sick of hearing about it. Me too. Just wanted to point out that there is something on the 20D that's something of a downgrade on paper.

In the US, street price of 20D is the exact same as the 10D when it was first released, so the lower street price argument doesn't apply to us. But even then I agree with you. 20D for $1500 is not expensive. If the 10D was worth $1500 then the 20D is definitely worth it if everything works on it the way we hope based on specs.

have always been way overpriced so maybe they are finally coming down to normal, maybe people will be a little less jealous of Americans and their cheap prices now, you know who you are.

Yes, the buffer is less, but overall the camera should be much faster in RAW and you will get much less of the dreaded 'busy' screen.

.. that would actually make me made. But, with all the other things, I still see no reason why it has to be less expensive.

Someone counted the number of frames captured in 3 seconds, and both the 10D and 20D were able to capture 9 RAW files within that time frame...

The 20D captures the first 5 quicker than the 10D, but slows down to a pace of about 9 frames in 3 seconds (in RAW).

Hey, we are complaining about why the UK is more expensive than US.

If the price was 1050 in the US, we'd be complaining that the UK was 1200 - NOT that the price is too high.

.. in theory, at 3fps, the 20D should do 9 RAW files??

Well, that would put it at the same frame rate as the 10D, which it is not.

Obviously, you already know that the 20D captures at 5fps...which means the first 5 photos are captured in the first second...and the last 4 photos are captured within the last 2 seconds, since it hits the buffer limit at 6 RAW images. It seems to snap at about 2 fps after the buffer hits.

This is only what I understand from what I am reading (and hearing from the shutter release mp3 that Phil posted).
