Thanks for the comments. This is the heart of the Passion Flower. We only get a few weeks to shoot these, as they come and go quickly. I lucked out on finding this one today.

You most certainly can do as good or better! It is just practice and patience and luck and post-processing!

If you get stuck with your lens, drop me an e-mail and I'll give you some pointers. I can praticularly hael with the post-processing.

Jeez. Did you have to get the focus so perfect on all of these?!! Now my head's filled with razor sharp close ups of creepy crawlies; I'll never get to sleep!

All great shots, Jim, but this last one of the flower is truly spectacular! Very unique! Great job with the composition! You should enlarge it, choose a nice frame and give it a place of honour on one of the walls of your home. Nicer than any work of art you could buy in the shops!

These are great Jim. I can see a marked improvement over the last 5-6 months with these. My only suggestion for the last one would be for a clearer angle of the spiders face, but all of these are great. Keep it up. : ) I'd be proud to have taken these.

I finally got caught up with my duties and finished my second
"Intro to Digital Photography" workshop at Callaway Gardens on
Saturday, so I was free this morning to do what I like to do most:
shoot some macros!

Usual setup: Canon 100mm f2.8 macro with the MT-24EX Flash, manual
mode, auto focus, hand-held, various shutter speeds and apertures,
RAW. All were converted in PSCS, applied a simple frame, and
sharpened using the "layer sharpening" method on a layer mask. I
shot 120 images and got 9 keepers. Most rejects were due to
artistic rather than technical reasons.

For the bandwidth challenged, I'll put 4 in this post and 5 in the
next.

Comments, critiques, and tiramisu greatly appreciated.
