I'm new at digital editing and would appreciate any advice about the following picture of the Ottawa Parliment Building. What would be the best way to remove the car form the picture? I realize that the picture is not the best. I'd just like to find out about editing the car out of it. The picture is as follows:

Thanks,

Generally there is a "clone" or "rubber stamp" tool. With this tool you brush in pixels from another part of the image. This is best done on a separate layer if you software package supports it. It takes some practice with what to pick, the spacing between the brush and what you are cloning, brush size, and the like. If done well, it is hard to tell that anything was ever done.

Karl,

Photoshop LE 5.0 came with my camera. It has the Rubber Stamp tool and layers. I'll give it a try.

The Rubber stamp tool is powerful, useful, and altogether great, but don't forget about cropping - you could just cut off the bottom of the picture.

Since the area to be cloned is fairly large I would try something a little different. Selecting a portion similar size adjacent and to the right of the car, copy the selection and paste it as a new layer. Then you can deform the layer to fit and darken, lighten it to match. Since the detail is sparse it would fit in pretty well.

Bill,
I thoought about cropping but I think it takes away too much from the picture.

Tom,

Thanks for the information. That's exactly how I wanted the picture to look in my mind. I just don't have enough experience to know what to do.
