OK. I'm reasonably web savy, but Nikon's awful site has defeated me. I'm throwing in the towel and asking for help!

I'm trying to download the latest version of Nikon View for my D70. First I registered at Nikon.com and when I reached the right page was told that because I had a European camera I'd have to go to the European site.

So I did. And it made me register again because the two sites are too stupid to share registration details. And what a registration form it was - it even wanted to know my date of birth! Naturally, it came loaded with hidden caveats that meant I had to keep on trying until I'd filled the form in the way IT liked. Awful interface design.

And now I've spent ten minutes desperately trying to find the page where I can download the latest version of Nikon View.

The site helpfully has a link entitled 'Where can I find software downloads and firmware updates for current products?'.

Clicking on that asks me to log in before dropping me off at exactly the same page all over again, offering a link entitled - you've guessed it - "Where can I find software downloads and firmware updates for current products?"

Perhaps I'm being a bit dense - it is a bank holiday morning after all, but could some kind soul direct me to the place where I can actually download Nikon View for a UK camera?

Thanks!

I had exactly the same problem, took me some time to find it out this weekend - I guess the guy responsible for the web design must be the same one who decided to include Picture Project with the new cameras instead of Nikon View. ;-)

Anyway, you need to not only register, but register your camera, or a lens, or anything else made by Nikon.

If you click "my profile", you'll find the option to enter a product number, and don't forget to press the "update" button!

You'll then advance from "registered user" to "registered user with product registration". Pressing "sofware, frimware" etc. then will require you to log in again (don't ask me why), and you'll be directed to the downloads site.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

I did not find any problem having already registered my Nikon Scanner and D70 and download worked without problem; don't of course forget to download the 6.1 to 6.2 updater.

As a programme I like it but when installing Nikon Capture the sharpen and B&W/Sepia adjustments disappear. I think that the Sepia is one of the more acurate programmes used.

Keep trying and enjoy.

Confirm, you have to registered as a Nikon Owner to download software. This is covered on other threads, if you search.

B&W/Sepia should still be present in Nikon View/Nikon Editor having installed Nikon Capture.

Good to see the UK group expanding.

Thanks for the help.

It is an indescribably bad website though: clicking on software -> Nikon View takes me to a useless page that offers no means or instructions on how to obtain the software, but - curiously - serves up the opportunity to see an utterly pointless enlarged graphic of the software logo!

I finally worked my way to the 'add product' box - another awful, badly designed form rudely asking for information that should have nothing to do with Nikon - and am now downloading the software.

What a poor advert for the company that site it - it even rivals Sony's horrendous offerings for poor usability.

It is not the easiest of sites to navigate. Itook me a while to figure it out.

Log in as normal...but dont click onthe question that says 'where can i find downloads for d70' or else you'll end up going in circles. Just use the drop down menu at the top. I think it asks you waht camera and a couple of other sub questions...then hit search.

Hope this helps

Jeff,

Many thanks. I have just looked again and as I said earlier the Sepia and B&W settings have disappeared. I even checked in the help box by typing in Sepia and the word was not there!

If you have it still it is obviously well hidden so I would appreciaite a pointer. I already had NikonView 6.2 installed when I installed Capture 4.1 then 4.2 over it and it has gorn :-(

Cheers

Bryan,

Open Nikon View, then go Nikon Editor/General Adjustments/Effects.

You mention Nikon View 6.2, I hope you mean Nikon View 6.2.2, the latest update. If not, download the update from Nikon TS.

Jeff,

many thanks for the reply. Unfortunately Nikon View defaults to Nikon Capture which has of course many more options but at the same time gets rid of NikonView Editor. I was using the editor general setting for sharpening and with a lot of old histrical bits I was busy converting to Sepia and planned for "old Nottingham and York City pages" but since loading Nikon Capture this facility has disapeared as I say giving greater options.

If all else fails I will remove Nikon Capture.

Yes I do have the latest versions downloaded of both Nikon View and Nikon Capture.

Cheers

Went into Nikon View preferences and changed default editor from Nikon Capture Editor to Nikon Editor - all sorted.

Maybe I need to got to sleep occasionally.

Thanks again Jeff.
