I'm new to this website but after only a few hours I have learned a ton! My question now is...having just bought a 17-35 EDIF 2.8F lens in prep for a D70 (cost $950 on ebay) I was planning to pick up, it sounds like there is a D200 coming. I am new to all of this but want to get equipment that will last. Should I wait for the D200? Does anyone know when it might go on sales here in the US?
You guys are the best...thanks in advance for all responses!!

Hi,

Photokina is coming up in September and apparently Nikon are expected to make an announcement on the 15th or 16th. I'm not sure what they are going to offer though. The 17-55mm DX lens is a stunning performer. Even coupled with the D70, it would shine (D70 = great camera). However, 2-3 weeks is not all that long to wait is it? Remember though, an announcement on any possible release does not mean the product will be readilly (and soon) available.

Good luck in your choice,

Gizmo

Hi Again,

Sorry, its past 3 in the morning here - you have the 17-35mm (legendary performer).

It is only a couple of weeks wait for any announcement for Photokina so unless your dying to have a camera right this instant waiting for a couple of weeks may be in order. Nothing like spending the $$$ only to find out that the same money plus a little more would have gotten you tons more features. There will always be something new around the corner but with new product announcements right around the corner patience may be in order. I'm one of those who are waiting for whatever Nikons answer is to the Canon 20D (D200 or whatever it is called). Couple of weeks wait is nothing and by then a choice can be made with all the information at hand as to what get.
No one knows when it will be announced, or whether there is
actually a D200 that will be announced some time in the future.
