I've seen a variety of Photoshop Techniques listed in this forum, but they are few and far between. I would like to see this thread with a few examples of what Photoshop can do along with an explanation of how to do it for those of us just starting out with Photoshop. I've learned how to "Glamorize" a Photo and how to Colorize a B&W (When the original was a color photo), but I'd love to see some more techniques. If you can post samples, that would be great.

This Thread if replied to by other photoshop users, should help those pros out there as well as the new users.

Is there no other techniques out there that are simple enough for New Users of Photoshop?? Come on, let's see your posts with your quick Fixes in Photoshop.

I use several of the actions at http://www.atncentral.com/ for my photos. I especially like Duotone Dreams, Edgarian Blur, and Gothic Glow. They can sometimes bring an otherwise bland photo to life.

Honestly, most of my stuff is done in Nikon Capture. If I can't make the photo look pretty much acceptable with the tools available there, then Photoshop isn't going to help too much. I then use photoshop for cropping, painting, or other touchups that are needed.

Also, there is a Retouching forum here that has TONS of the information you are looking for. I'd recommend a search for Photoshop and you'll find more than you can read in a year.

Here is one that I used.its quite simple to do and uses layer masks.4 shots of the same thing with ony the person moving in each shot..Then mask each one overtop of the other and bring out the original you started with.

Now this isn't even a good pic but it was one of the first jpegs I shot on holiday with a new dslr so could be very typical for newbies.

I'm not showing it for composition lighting or contrast, but more to show what the luminous landscape technique for blending can do...i.e.

And it works (adapted) on PS Elements as well. Takes literally a couple of minutes, though I could obviously have spent more time on getting the right lighting and colour balance - just did this to show a result.

For me, Levels are the quickest and easiest way to adjust brightness in a digital images.

Use the Menu - Image > Adustments > Levels.

Slide the right slider over to the left so that it reaches the edge of the level 'mass' - then slide the left one until it reaches the left side of the mass.

You can adjust the middle slider if you have to, but usually it's not needed in D-70 shots.

This will brighten up shots that the built-in flash did quite hit with enough light, for example.

Try it on some of your underexposed photos. It is much easier than adjusting bightness and contrast.

(disclaimer: The terms I used here may not be the best, but you will get it once you try it.)
