I just acquired the TC-14EII on eBay and tried it with my AFS 300mm 1:4D. I am using the Kodak 14nx body. The metering function will work with this combination but the autofocus will not. The viewfinder will tell when the lens in focus. I aslo tried the TC-14EII with my AFS 80-200 1:2.8D and the auto focus does work.

Can anyone tell me if they have TC-14EII/AFS 300mm 1:4D autofocus function working and with what body?

Thanks, Brad

There seems to be a problem related to the AF-S 300/f4 and the TCs not matter what body they're attached to. I had problems with this combo on my D1x and SLR/n. What I've read it could be a problem of the electronics of the AF-S 300/f4 - but it can be corrected by Nikon service. I have mine yet to send in. You would have the same problem with the TC-20EII too.

I don't have a SLRn but this combo (300/4 + 14E) works perfectly fine on all my film bodies (F5, F100, N80, N75) and D70. Since SLR/n's AF system is the same as N80/N75 there shouldn't be any body-related problem... Also used AFS 300/4 with TC20E and Kenko pro 300 1.4X too and they work just fine...

I don't think you can get the f/4 + 1.4D working with AF because that puts the App at over 5.6 which means AF won't work. This is just off the top of my head, but I believe this is correct.

Nikon mentioned this but is very conservative here. As far as I remember at least my D1x can AF most of the time even with the TC20EII and AF-S 300/f4 when this combo worked.

My 1.4 and 300/f4 work pretty well; the 2.0 doesn't always work so well.
