Very nice shot. I have experimented with the 180-600 on the 2x TC just enough to know that I really don't like F13, but also learned that here where it's hot and dry I can get away with it in August when the temperature swings from night to day are minimal and wind is at it's lowest and humidity...
Yes I already know I will be taking it most of the time. I also waited long enough to buy to know that I can successfully shoot at 800mm in the locations and conditions around me and aiming is already mostly muscle memory to look down the lens and then bring it to my eye and have the subject...
Yes absolutely, thank you, I agree with all of this. In my original post I actually asked responders to look at my images - mostly static subjects under clear blue skies, and comment on whether they thought my type of photography would benefit from the Z800 F6.3. I'd say it was about half who...
Yeah I was waiting for a deal. Camera Canada had one on an open box discount and when this latest sale arrived that meant I was able to pick up the lens for $1600CAD below list with the combined discounts.
I'll be keeping the 400 F4.5 to combine with this and like you, both TC's in a pocket...
Yeah that stop of light will make it easier for sure. I can easily handhold the 800 but I'm not sure I would want to spend a full day of packing it around shooting, though a few hours is no problem. I have been shooting 800 enough I don't have a problem aiming either, it starts to happen...
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback and I am happy to have the new lens. The 400 F4.5 is still a very good option even with the 2x TC but I am happy to have the extra stop of light and small bump up in image quality.
No problem. I learned a lot through all this and thought it deserved the follow up. I will definitely use the 1.4 with the 800mm when conditions permit.
After this discussion I decided to sit tight and shoot with my 400mm F4.5 and both TCs for another year. It is now one year later and last week I acquired the Z 800mm F6.3. I thought I would put a little wrap up on this thread.
I have no regrets shooting the Z 400mm F4.5 with the 2x TC for the...
I have a Z50II and a Z8 but no Z6III. Personally I wouldn't take the Z50II just based on battery alone. It is fine for casual use but you will be out where you just want to shoot and shoot. The Z50II takes fine pictures and the AF works great but you will be swapping batteries a lot. With Z6III...
You mean how to turn up the playback volume? While playing the video the 2 buttons just right of the screen with the magnifying glass with +- are the volume controls during playback. The default volume of 15 on mine is inaudible even in a quiet setting so I had to bump it up into mid 20's.
Just seconding what was said here. I just got my Z50II as a backup/second body for birding with my Z8. The Viltrox 16mm seems fine on it. The grip is substantial enough that the very slight front heaviness of the combo doesn't feel problematic. It's not a combo I would use often but it doesn't...
Portraits. It is hands down my favourite lens for portraits as long as I have enough room. 70-200 and 85 are nice but neither can render backgrounds in portraits like 135 f1.8 wide open. I would probably love a 105 f1.4 but haven’t ever tried one. I really like the 135 for candid portraits at...
I shoot with the Sigma 135 Art. I bought it second hand in pristine condition before the Plena was announced for 1/4 what the Plena sells for new, about 1/3 if you include an FTZ. The FTZ is not an issue in any way. I just leave one permanently attached to the lens. Image quality is superb...
The 400mm F4.5 with the 2x TC is miles better than cropping. It requires a little more aggressive sharpening than I put on the the image taken with the 1.4x but there is loads of fine detail. I personally find it sharpens up better than my 180-600+1.4x.
My 2 lenses are exactly the 2 being...
