    LBA WA 2.8 zoom or 17-70 f/4?

I just went through the same decision process myself. I had the DA 16-45mm and I wanted a faster lens. So I sold the 16-45. I tried two different DA*16-50 lenses but I never liked the chromatic aberrations you get with that lens. Both were sent back. I looked at the DA 17-70mm F/4.0, but the...

    K20D wireless flash with 540

One other thing - you have to chose whether the on camera flash is for control only, or for control and fill, in which case it adds to the exposure. It is in the setup menu somewhere.

    K20D wireless flash with 540

Set the mode switch so that you can access the channel selector on the 540. Make sure you've selected "Slave" on the button on the bottom right of the 540 (unless you're using it as a master of course). Then put it on the camera and the channel will register automatically. Then select the W mode...

Pentax Strobist group? Is there such a thing?

When I originally swapped my cactus batteries I had the same problem with the US ones being bigger then the originals, and with the cover popping off occasionally as a result. I also noticed that when the cover was off the receiver triggered, but when it was on it would not. In my case it...

Pentax Strobist group? Is there such a thing?

What a coincidence - my K10D just went in for repair yesterday. Actually it had just come back from repair, but it came back with a new problem, so in it went again. Hopefully it will come back with a clean bill of health this time. Yes - the onboard flash on the K100D will trigger the 540 if...

Pentax Strobist group? Is there such a thing?

The 540 does have an optical trigger. In the setup mode there is an "SL" or slave setting. SL1 means wireless flash, SL2 means optical triggering from another flash as describer below.

Pentax Strobist group? Is there such a thing?

Hi Pavel - nice image BTW. I used to struggle with the slow sync speed too - I can only get 1/125 with my cactus triggers. But the reality is that unless I'm outdoors (i.e can't easily control ambient) and have to have F/2.8, I get by even with the 1/125. One extra stop of time gets you one...

    Chromatic Aberration on DA*16-50

I have the same experience with the 16_45. While I can see the problems in images that tend to produce the effect (like you said - trees against flat skys), it generally doesn't bother me, or can easily be corrected. With my sample of the 16-50 however, it was actually very noticeable, and not...

    Chromatic Aberration on DA*16-50

Hi John, Its CA for sure, on the blue-yellow axis, and radial as you'd expect (i.e. not noticeable in the center, and progressing to the edges). Its at least 3 and sometimes 4 pixels wide in the worst cases. All the shots are RAW with AWB and shot outdoors. The colors are spot on so AWB is...

    Chromatic Aberration on DA*16-50

Thanks Sune. Actually my copy of the 16-45 does pretty good on CA (although the PF is an issue for high contrast edges, particularly tree branches). I was hoping that the 16-50 would be a step up in quality, but the extra editing in LR to deal with the CA was a deal breaker - at least for this...

    Chromatic Aberration on DA*16-50

I'm willing to give the DA*16-50 another shot (at lest as soon as my refund processes on Amazon). If the next one fails for the same reason though I'll be going with either the Tamron or the Sigma.

    Chromatic Aberration on DA*16-50

I'm curious about other members experiences with chromatic aberration on the DA*16-50. I recently tried one out from Amazon, but I returned it due to excessive CA. I had more than a few images that could not be corrected even at +100 on the blue/yellow slider in LightRoom. I found myself...

    Overpowering the Sun

I always thought of over powering the sun meaning shooting much faster than the metered speed and then boosting the subject back up with flash, so that you could get dark(er) sky and beautifully lit subjects. Do you mind me asking what the shutter speeds were? I thought you could only over power...

Auschwitz (5 imgs taken with da 70 limited)

Very evocative and powerful. I like the first two the best. BW was a very good choice considering the subject matter.
