    If I turn it off and then just twist the lens back and forth on the mount once and turn it back on the error clears. Still think it’s the cable?

    I have a canon t4i body and tamron zoom lens. I keep getting this error. I tried cleaning the contacts with a small pencil eraser on both body and lens and it keeps intermittently coming up. Any ideas?

    I actually used Picassa to retouch the photos and remove the blotches. It works pretty well.

    Since this is the first time, and because I have a Canon service center close by, I decided to have them do it. It only cost about $30 and has a 6 month warranty. I'm a little clumsy when it comes to these things.

    Thanks for the clarification. My local camera store has a pro who comes in to clean sensors and do other work. I think I'll let him do it. I've heard some horror stories from people who did this themselves and messed things up.

    I didn't consider the sensor. What kind of dirt would be translucent? I would expect dirt on the sensor to look like black spots. Doesn't seem to make sense to me.
