Wow! What a ride! I had so much fun over the past two weeks and really overwhelmed by these breathtaking entries. Now it's the time to vote for the winning image. Please take your time to go through all the images and rate them.

My thanks to everyone who entered in this challenge and everyone for who left valuable feedback and suggestions to improve.
  • Thanks, Karthik.

This one was REALLY hard.

I started studying and going through the galleries a couple of hours ago so that I'd be ready by booth open.

Everyone had really great shots!

angela :)

PS - iso was right, the out of order in the booth set up did make me notice some that I didn't before.

All done with the voting. Thanks Kathrik for a great subject performed very well by very many different people - the exhibition gallery really, really was tough!

I'm heading to Southern California for 10 days starting tomorrow where I'l have slow and sporadic access to the internet - I'll be checking in from time to time.
Hey! Surfing might be a good topic for the next challenge, don't you think? :)

I hope to take lots of photos down there - who knows? I may accidentaly shoot some that qualify for the next one... that is, if I can overcome, what my friends are referring to as my second teenagehood and manage to tear myself away from shooting pretty strangers... hah! They should try being single again after 30, almost totaly uninterrupted, years of marriage... it's really tough! but somebody's got to do it.

Thank you Karthik for the topic. As a newbie I was forced to learn pretty quickly. And I actually got some votes (YAY!!). I must say I'm very happy with my progress and learning curve. Quite a bit of it due to these challenges. Can't wait to discover the next topic.

Thank you to all who commented on my photos and/or voted for my feeble attempts at Photography.

I find it interesting to note how many ways there are to measure popularity of the photos... there is the vote for the most liked (which usually wins) and then there's the one that may get voted on as a last entry, but more people vote for it making it even more popular in the democratic system.

Now I'm rambling... stop that Byron! Ok...where's the next challenge?

I was freaked because I want like ten of them to win. Yeah, the
exhibition gallery is soooo tough.

But here is my actual vote if I can select ten images... :)
Wow, I am honored to have my photo on that list! So many outstanding photos in the exhibition gallery. Now I can't wait to vote (but I have to, I'm at work right now) to see how my photo of my wife is faring...

.....or was this a great challenge?

Comments seemed to be plenty. The challenge thread was alive. Most people seemed to be enthused and some great pictures were produced by all.

Also, there were a lot of passes given out to newcomers. Let's hope those that only uploaded to exhibition gallery will try eligible soon enough.

People sure proved a popular subject.

However will we follow this?

Also we have the record number of entries in both galleries.

It was really an exhilarating expereince to see everybody's work. I think this vibe will continue. Also it's interesting to see the crirtiques for this challenge, most of them were right on honest and open. I think that played a major role in stimulating this vibe.

that my votes seemed to differ vastly from the general consensus. I was a little rushed this time, and I'm sure that played a part (one of my votes in eligible was miscast, for example -- it doesn't affect the standings, so I won't go into it further). However, I'm thinking there might be something more fundamental, namely the perception of faces.

Looking back through the highest ranked entries and studying them carefully, I wouldn't change my vote to any of the ones in the top five that I didn't already vote for. This is in both the eligible and exhibition categories. The picture that appears destined to be the winner, for example, doesn't seem special in any way to me. I can't explain why. There's just nothing about it that grabs me. And I'm really distracted by the blue in the background. There must be something compelling about it, though, or it wouldn't be receiving so overwhelming a lead in the votes.

Nah, not just you. People like to look at people - it's a human trait! I'd say it is the most photographed subject since the invention of photography. If you want to make your photograph have the widest possible appeal, it should include people. Of course, just adding people to any given shot is not - on its own - going to make it a great photograph...

Well Victor, whether a mistake or not, I must say I do appreciate your vote for my Self-Painted. You have done a good deed helping the ego of a newbie. LOL

In most challenges, I tend to find I may have voted for one of the top 5 finishers.

For this one, I did actually vote for the current leader (though I won't go into why here), but I have constantly wondered how some people seem to have the magic formula.

Some people do seem to consistently score highly. And while many times this is very deserved, sometimes I find myself puzzled as to why a particular image has received so many votes (OTOH, Victor, one of the images yo have voted for has me completely bemused...)

I assume that this also explains why my own pics are rarely highly placed, I simply do no appear able to find that special "something" that others seem to have, no matter how happy I am with the pictures themselves (which is not to say I always think I deserve to win, but sometimes I cannot figure out why an image received little or no votes).

I guess if we all knew the magic formula, it would be too easy, eh?

I have constantly wondered how some people seem to have the magic
formula.
When I started out, I couldn't get anyhting right. Then one day, whilst destroying my 1978 Praktica MTL3 in a furious rage when it kept backfocusing, a strange wizard materialised before me. He said he had a gift for me should I choose to accept it. It would make my path to better imagery an easier process. All I had to do was believe. He handed me this.......

I find in times of trouble, I just hit the bottle and all my problems dissappear - perfect pictures every time ;)

As I have some spare, I'll send some to you. Just check your email for a gift.

You see, I tried that too but everything came out out-of-focus... :)

Hmmm. I wonder which one. Don't forget, one of the pictures I voted for was an error, but, as I said before, I won't identify which one.
