Version 1.0.1, available on http://www.usa.canon.com/support/files/psshared.html

The new USB driver 3.6 includes the RawConverter Utility 1.0.1. I just tried it. When installed, you just double-click on the CRW file in the Windows Explorer, and it launches the converter, which has a window similar to the Twain driver, with white point select (this is for Nahau).

On my Pentium III 866Mhz, the application starts with a preview in less than 2 seconds, and the conversion takes 11 seconds.

That's cool: with Chris "Downloader", the RawBrowser from Dan and this utility, I've got all I need for an effective usage of the RAW files.

Hi Nadim--

You are using Windows ME, right?

Adding:

The utility could do batch: select multiple files in Windows Explorer, hit the "RETURN" key. The utility starts. Do your white balance setting on first image. Select the target directory. Don't change the filename... It does the batch conversion.

I am using Windows ME.

That's cool

I reread your post, Nadim, and it became clear that WinME is not required.

Sorry about that...

Hi Nadim,

LOL! You sound like a little kid full with excitement! I guess we know what that means!!;-)

That's funny, I just posted to Elazer awhile ago that I wasn't going to download because my USB was working fine.......now, I'm in the midst of doing just that! Dang...I need DSL or cable...that's ok, only 18 minutes more to go :-(
I will try it out tonight and see how it is. Thanks for the heads-up!

I used the EXIF software http://oneilsoftware.hypermart.net/Exif/Exif.html to test it.. the TIFF / EP information is very similar to usual EXIF info that is included in the CRW file. Another good news for the week-end.

Hi Nadim,

I'm thinking like you....I only want to install the raw converter.

When I double-click the usb361.exe file, do I get the option at that point to install ONLY the converter?

Does the converter only create TIFF's or is JPEG an option?

Thanks,

Doug

Hey Nadim,

I just tried it out and it works GREAT!!! YAAAAHOOOO!!! Guess what...it will even open a .crw file downloaded from the G1 into zoombrower! You know what that means right,......the .thm file is no longer needed!!! Sheesh!! Chris went through all the trouble of writing his software and now the .thm is not even needed. Man, if Canon came up with this a few weeks ago, this forum wouldn't have had to go through all the anxiety we went through!!! And, Chris could have saved some time of his own. I will still use Chris' Downloader though, as it is much faster than zoombrowser. hmmm, I wonder if he will change his software now to get rid of the .thm.
Talk to you later!!

I am sure glad I checked the Canon site earlier today and let you all know about the new Canon updates :) Looks like it made a few of us have a better weekend.

BTW, the utility lets you save the .CRW converted file in either TIFF or BMP formats.

TIFF or BMP only.

To install, I used Winzip to unzip the usb361.exe file, and extracted only the converter directory. it has a separate setup.exe utility.

Nahau, Elazar,

I like it too...

It works without the .THM, and is able to regenerate the TIFF/EP (similar to EXIF) info without the .THM.
It works with any file name... as long as the extension is .CRW.

What else did we say we needed ??
Thanks Elazar for pointing this out !!

and Thanks Canon for listening to us!!
Nadim

It is somehow slower in 16bit and that is what you shoud use to get the most out of it.

Hey guys many thanx--it works super--even on my old W95 (New computer this year when new MS OS comes out).

This might be the greatest invention since sliced bread, sliced cheese and sex.

Hummmmm-well maybe bread and cheese!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know, I've had some really nice cheeses before, but I have to slice it myself. Although, I do have to admit that this really is a nifty utility. Works on Win 2K Pro just great too. Sounds like you'll be getting Windows XP later in the year. That's quite a jump from Win 95 to Win XP.

You're seem to be up late!

Sorry for the double post.

Also--"The Greatest Invention" refers to the new Canon software not the new MS OS. Who knows what that may bring??

I installed successfully on Win 2K. First time I tried the download, that zip seemed to be corrupt. I redownloaded and it unzipped successfully. I ran the full install and that seems to work fine.
