ADULT CONTENT: SF Pride + SHOOT from the hip (LONG)

who was the other guy in the island with you??

I didn't know you were part of that experiment ;-)

You're absolutely right though...........

man + man = 0 babies.

you don't need an island or an experiment to figure that out.

Ro1

since it's soooo very hard for you to comprehend.

Man + woman = possibility of producing another human life.

Man + Man = 0 possibility of ever producing another human life.

Woman + woman = 0 possibility of ever producing another human life.

Now unless you're extremely obtuse or suffering from brain damage,
you CAN understand my argument. It's a natural argument.

End of discussion. Point well made. GAME, SET, MATCH :)

Personal views aside, of all the photos the "Homeless in SF" is far and away the best. It's a great natural portrait.

Trying different tint filters in PS wouldn't hurt.

here's something for you to ponder.

Now I know this has nothing to do with photography and I'm hesitant
to post it. I'm trying to stay with photography and not get into
moral values here.

But suppose you were to take two people who were homosexuals and
place them on a deserted island for a scientific experiment. Two
males or females... it wouldn't matter. All things being equal and
provided there was plenty of food and adequate shelter, what would
happen over the process of time?

Would the island repopulate or die? Would it thrive and live? You
be the judge "sweetchops".

Using just plain old common sense, the natural conclusion of the
experiment should tell you something.

You made up a wonderful experiment. I can see that your imagination is just as vivid as the kids in kindergarden, who make things up and even draw pictures of people on deserted islands.

I'll tried to follow your lead and I thought of this experiment. If we put you and a male friend of yours on a deserted island, what are the chances of you two becoming gay?

We already know that you won't have any kids. LOL!:-)

why is it that if someone expresses an opinion based (and I'm
inferring, here) on a "morally centered" belief or position some
people find it necessary to brand them as 'phobic' or to label them
with a derogatory term for expressing their views? Is it not
possible to hold a contrary opinion without being "phobic"? (of
course it is.. though some refuse to acknowledge this).

There is a difference between tolerance and acceptance. One can
tolerate while utterly rejecting/refusing to accept anothers
opinions, views, lifestyle choices, and values. Tolerance doesn't
equal acceptance. Meanwhile, it's an interesting thing to witness
"the champions of tolerance and inclusion" become entirely
intolerant when confronted with a viewpoint which is starkly
different from their own, leading to the branding, exclusion,
dismissiveness, and pretty much everything they themselves would
define as being 'wrong' with respect to diversity and inclusion.

Just something to consider... meanwhile, I find the displays
presented very interesting from a photographic point of view but
largely objectionable from a personal point of view. But that's my
opinion based on my values and moral judgements. Now, back to the
regular, forum-specific stuff...

Nice work, Michael, to get a good cross-section of the day's events
and use a 'more candid' shooting style than you might otherwise be
accustomed to. Now, if you had one of those nifty Sony 828's you'd
probably have made great use of it's flexible body style, yes?!?
;-)

Keep up the good, and "varied", work, despite the objections of
people like myself to the actual subject matter. ;-)

icmp
I was just going to say this, but see you beat me to it. I'm not homophobic, i'm not a gay basher, i've known a few openly gay people in my life and did not have a problem with them. Now the thought of having sex with another man or even kissing another man is utterly repulsive to me, not because i'm homophobic, not because of my religious beliefs, because i'm straight. Is there something wrong with that? Does that offend all the gay men on dpreview? I should hope not. Now my question, is the thought of a man and women having sex repulsive to a gay man or women?

As for the pics, i like the homeless man, but i could have gone all day without seeing the woman? man? in the pink shirt sitting in the convertible. Still not sure what that was.

That's an interesting experiment, suppose that he does "become gay" or for the sake of arguement he has sex with his friend. Now suppose they get rescued. Would he continue to have sex with his friend and live happily ever after or would he return to the straight and narrow.

If you are below 21 years old, please um...you can read through
this post but don't click the last link.... ;-)

So, how do you shoot a bunch of naked people or two men kissing
without them beating you up? Shoot from the hip, of course!!!

These are taken from San Francisco Pride Parade earlier today.
Please DO NOT judge my composition and technicality from the photos
as MOST of them are under extreme lightning conditions and ONLY ONE
photo out of all of these went through any post processing. (I'm
getting really lazy these days)

In addition to that, quite a few of these photographs were shot
from the hip. Good thing I'm a snooker and pool player, I estimate
distance, angles and especially AIM very well and some of the shots
actually came out better than I EVER thought possible!!!

Well, let's look at the post processed photo first, shall we? This
is a shot of what looks like a homeless man, really fantastic
facial characteristic. So, I had to post-process this one.

Now for a few other samples that went through no post processing
whatsoever, no USM, no levels, nothing. Just normal RAW to JPEG
convertion is all. The next photo is the very first set of riders
at 10:30am when the parade started. This is just a regular pan
shot. Nothing special.

The next image is dedicated for the women in this forum...although
I can't guarantee that he is single OR even straight. LOL!!

Old man in Chinatown playing Er-Hu. Gave him a dollar and he was
glad to pose for me. No, he wasn't winking. I think he has some
problem with his right eye. Nice guy though.

This funny gentleman climbed up a pretty tall postbox and was
yelling out at the top of his lungs about the Commander in Chief
being very "happy" to send young men to die in Iraq...

A stall selling S&M and leather stuff. I manual focused to blur
out the entire image to take this shot. I like it a lot for its
abstract feel, don't ask me why.

This woman works for MAC..she isn't wearing anything
except...paints, sparkling paints...

The next two photos are the best "photography on the hip" I've did
all day. I really like it! Shot it from the hip cuz I was only
using my Canon 28-135mm...can't get far enough and didn't want to
look obvious that I'm photographing.

ALMOST got a photo of these two gentlemen kissing...my reflex just
ain't fast enough, unfortunately...

This is their dog...

Are they on the isalnd? Do they threaten to take over the world so it won't reproduce? Are they are not your fellow citizens paying taxes? Or maybe you implying they're not human beings and don't desreve to be photographic subjects? What else they don't deserve?
Chances are if you placed a man and woman in the same situation,
there would be life... reproduction.

With a gay couple, there would be "0" percent / chance of
reproduction. No chance of ever producing another life. To the
logical mind, that says something.

I will keep my opinions to myself with regards to most of your previous posts, but something I don't quite understand: your first posting here in this thread said "I wouldn't have wasted a shutter click on any of these" and yet now you are trying to discuss the merits of a photograph you wouldn't have wasted a shutter click on.

Am I missing something?

What if the hokey pokey really IS what it's all about?

I enjoyed looking through your gallery. Some great pictures! Definitely some things there you don't see everyday!

Good grief, Michael! You actually took pictures of HOMOS! What next, man? You'll be taking pictures of Blacks, and Native Americans, and Hispanics, and white people, and Orientals, and Jews, and people who like the color green, and people who prefer cats over dogs, and where will it end?

In the words of my favorite philosopher (OK, he's Groucho Marx)...

"Why the hell don't everybody leave everybody else the hell alone?"

You got some nice and interesting shots there, guy. I've never been to one of those deals, but, my guess is that you've captured the flavor of it well.

Yeah, it says something about taking pack animals out of their pack. I'm guessing you are ignorant of the fact that homosexual behaviour has been documented in many pack animals, and is beleived to be common to most? Human are pack animals too.

It is currently suggested that large and healthy packs produce more homosexual pack members, since they contribute to hunting and nurturing the pack without producing more offspring. Of course this is a contested suggestion, and sexuality research among animals is even more lacking than among humans. That doesn't mean we should ignorantly assume that simplistic scenarios - like the one above - actually prove anything.

(Besides, even if modern westerners knew enough to survive in the wilderness, two or even four people have too little genetic diversity to repopulate anything.)

I find it interesting that in a recent post, someone was commenting on how much the Dreblers seem like a close group; then I read this divisive thread.

To paraphrase a popular line, "It's the biology, stupid". Straights are attracted to the opposite sex and gays to the same sex, with varying degrees of bisexualtiy in between. The silly island scenario was about reproducton, not sexual attraction. Gays pose more threat to humanity's reproduction now than we ever did.

I find it very, very offensive to read michaelthorne's broad-brush statement "I can't stand gays..." Really? Why can't you stand me? You don't even know me!

I think a good example of immoral behavior is allowing one's self to stay ignorant. Luckily, you can change that by opening your mind.

Sorry to rant, but I couldn't let this go by without defending myself and my gay friends.

Nice pics, by the way (he said, trying to get back on topic :)

Anecdotal evidence from prison inmates who have sex with other men while in jail suggest they return to straight behaviour after. There is a lot of research and documentation on this. Human sexuality is a lot more complex and fluid than most people realise.

At least he hasn't stooped to taking photos of guys named Hank that take self-portraits with a champaigne-colored camera! From what I hear, they're the worst of the bunch! Cheers!
