What's the likelihood of a 'full-size' mirrorless body?

First off, I am not trying to start a war here, this is something I have been curious about since the Z7 came out.

I have size XXL (or larger) hands and I find the Z7, Z6, Z5 bodies all to small and cramped to be comfortable, the Z9 is great but don't see myself spending that much on a body, ever. I don't like using grips as often feel awkward as well. Ergonomics are hugely important to me, I like the camera to 'dissapear' in my hands so I can really get into what I am shooting. I currently shoot with a D850 and D500 (amongst other brands) and find the D850 to be a fantastic fit, the D500 slightly less so...I am happy with those cameras and they will hopefully last me for the next few years to come.

What do you think the possibilty of a Z10 or whatever coming out with a D850 size of body?

I'd say absolutely 0, but I can't tell the future. Getting a battery grip for the other Z cameras if you don't want to pay for a z9 is your other only option until the 9 drops in price a lot.

I'd say chances are "I don't know, probably not, but maybe."

I'm not sure if there are a lot of people who want a larger body like the Z9, but cheaper. You always hear about people moving to mirrorless for the size reduction. I do hear people asking for some of the speed of the Z9 in a smaller body.

Yeah, that's the thing, no one really knows except for a handful of people at Nikon. I mentioned in original post that add-on grips just feel awkward at best. Thanks for your suggestion of waiting a while for the Z9 prices to come, my D850/D500 aren't going anywhere for now...

Yeah, I know you said you didn't like them, but there's not another option for the z series right now really, unless you looked into something like a smallrig, but I'm not sure that would make enough of a difference for you or not.

It's funny, I can't imagine using my Sigma 105mm f1.4 A on a Z7 body, not very balanced at all.

Nikon can't even get a freaking Z8 out in anywhere the time frame they needed to, you think they've got the ability to make a bunch of different body styles to suit every need? No way.

Buy a Z9 or stay with your D850.

Plus, remember, the overall market is shrinking, meaning since "full size" bodies aren't universally popular, you're not going to see one from Nikon other than the top end pro model.

I don't think that there will be anything bigger than a Z9. I mean part of the appeal of the Z9 is it is smaller than the FF DSLRs (like the D5/D6) in many regards. I also think due to naming, it wouldn't be a Z10, but rather either a Zx or a Z9 Mark II but even if they did have an improved Z9, it wouldn't be any bigger. I think the days of big bulky pro DSLR sized bodies is done.

However, to overcome some of the issues you mentioned, you could buy the $399 grip for the Z6/Z7. Makes it about the size of a Z9 but for quite a bit less (about $2000 if you figure with the grip, a Z7 II is $3400).

I must admit I handled a Z6ii at the weekend, with the intent to buy one as an accompaniment to my D500. It didn't feel as good as my D500; feeling cramped and too light. I ended up buying a used D810 for half the price (cost was the primary deciding factor, in the end).

Absolutely none. You might get a slightly larger body over the Z6/7. But not approaching a D850. IMO.

True. It's still much larger though. (than the Z7 etc...)

That's what happens when you need room for the bigger battery and other features (GPS, ethernet, etc).

Unfortunately, I agree with most here that Nikon hasn't shown any indication of making a larger Z body (between Z7/6 and Z9). I would really like one myself (not too much taller, but deeper so that my hands could fit the grip as well as I could on DSLR).

Maybe if we order enough replacement outer-rubber material and stack it on to the outside of our cameras, the few mm's extra would be enough? /S

I actually prefer my Z6 at its current size and don’t want one significantly larger.
