Lens porn indeed. That’s a gorgeous chunk of glass (the model looks quite lovely as well). So, I’m curious how this long a lens works into your photography. Can you share an example or two of the sorts of setups and situations where you can really take advantage of a 200mm prime in your biz?

This is the look you get when using it for fashion:

Beautiful, Ben, thanks. So, could I sum up the technical aspects of what you’re looking for here (beyond composition) as: a flattened background and very thin DOF (subject isolation)? That’s seems to be a common aspect of the excellent examples you included here. It looks like you wanted a bit of complexity to the background and for it to be somewhat identifiable, but soft/blurred enough to not distract from your subject. Hence: larger aperture but longer FL.

Wouldn’t a gfx system with a 110/2 give a similar effect. I find that the 110/2 gives a smooth background but you can identify the entities therein.

since Ben has both gfx and X I wonder .... compared to the 200mm the gfx is a super light kit.

Lovely photos, and an interesting demonstration - I'm not complaining about the OP's post but, could people please not quote the images when replying?

My internet connection is often as low as 50kB/s and maxes out at around 800kB/s. Being out in the sticks, there's no way I can get it faster.

Thank you :-)

It is my understanding that to get an equivalent FOV you'd get from a 200mm lens on APS-C on the GFX you'd need a lens with a focal length of about 380mm. To get the 110mm FOV you get on the GFX on FF you'd need something like an 85mm lens and a 56mm lens on APS-C.

If we're talking about background separation, maybe. I'd have to test the lenses to make sure. Nonetheless the field of view would be rather different.

Very different compression and perspective. So the answer in a word is no. :-)

*sigh*

It's really not so hard, even if you have to quote the text. Pretty please?

Nice images! You must have big arms. :-)

One quibble: I don't think that I'm a prude, but I don't consider "porn" to be a joke. It is also way overused, e.g. food porn, house porn, etc., etc., etc. Perhaps you could resort to "drool" or "prized possession" or some other epithet. Please don't take offence, I mean this constructively. Regards.

JS, this is clearly OT, but let me weigh in with an opinion on this, and please just take it that... just an opinion, not some form of moderation The term "food porn," and other such derivatives that you mention, are IMHO a pretty well understood and broadly used phrases in American jargon. I'm not so sure most folks would give it a second thought or be offended. You have every right to request that its usage here be avoided, but understand that I don't see it as any sort of a violation of forum rules. Like other such terms that some might find mildly offensive, it may be better overlooked.

I'm not looking for a discussion or argument over this issue, but just wanted to share an opinion with respect to the usage of the term within the forum. It's not something I would choose to either delete or intervene in (unless this turns into a debate, in which case I'll quickly steer the thread back on topic). Please feel free to PM me if you feel differently and I'd be happy to discuss it further with you.

Benjamin,

I need to give you some strap recommendations. And you are using those horrible metal Fuji lug-mount triangles. This distracts from the beauty of the lens. 😁

Stay safe and healthy in Paris.

No offence whatsoever! :-)

Thanks very much for your reply Jerry. Understood completely.

Very glad to hear it. Thanks for your reply!

Thx Benjamin. Got the point vividly with the beautiful captures. I was just wondering if you will get a similar separation by going closer to the subject with the gfx/110 given how smoothly the 110mm can render.

The subjects and the gear are stunning.
