I'd like to start a gallery. I was going to do it on my domain but I'd prefer a pbase type one where people can enter comments. I can't build one of those myself. Pbase only offers it free for 30 days and then you can't add to it, plus they may remove it. ARe there any free ones out there?

Thanks,
Lonnit

Spend the few dollars that the good sites ask for and they will still be around when you need them. Many people lost numerous shots as the free ones ran out of funds and vanished.

There are allot of choices and the cost is small. Someone has to pay for the equipment.

I don't want to make the site myself. I only do html. I was looking for the possibility of a freebie of the pbase type.

YOu mean they never kept thier own backups? I wouldn't dream of that! I just want a place to display where people can comment.

I'm looking for the advertisers to do that! LOL!

plus you get to customize the site to fit you mood.

23 bucks for 100 megs is great. I have paid for two accounts there, one for my son's soccer pics and one for my photos.
Pbase is cheap and very good for what they offer. The money we pay
is for the expertise that we do not have. Bite the bullett and pay
for a year of hassle free uploading.

It's just that the spending never seems to stop! LOL! I approximated my initial spend at about $2400. By the time I left the camera shop I was over $2900. Went back 2 weeks later and exchanged the tamron lens for a canon which added another $70. Took some shots of one of hubby's contracting jobs and realized I need to go wider so just ordered a wide angle today - that was another $160. I went for the phoenix 19-35 b/c it was the cheapest thing I could get. Eventually that will have to be upgraded to a real lens. The FUV conversion software is impossible so I'm ordering the photoshop upgrade for another $169 plus tax and shipping. I'm working on hubby to get that epson printer for $699 too. At this point, yup, I'm trying to get something for nothing! LOL! Oh yeah, hubby also killed his oly 3030 on the jobsite so we had to replace that with a nice pocket-sized one for him... another $500 there. It just doesn't end! :O

I think though, despite all the above, I will be spending on the gallery!

Warmly,
Lonnit

I also moved from one free site to the next for a couple of years. They are usualy only free for a few months and then they start charging. Eventually I got tired of moving and decided to stick with pbase and pay the small free. It is realy not a lot of money for what you get.

IT may SEEM like it costs more, but it doesn't. You have already mentioned 2 upgrades and you just got your camera. Lucky your dealer let you trade up lenses for the difference in cost. It doesn't make sense to buy a cheap lens unless it's the lens you want. There are some decent lenses out there that are not expensive (lots of people swear by Tamron and Tokina 19-35) but I wouldn't buy a lens that I didn't plan to keep for a while.

If you know you're going to upgrade, just get the right lens the first time instead. You do the math. I believe you' re better in the long run.
I think though, despite all the above, I will be spending on the
