Steve McCurry , the man who shot De Niro with the last roll of kodachrome.

Steve McCurrys most famous photograph is the image called "afghan girl" from his work as a war photographer for the Afghan Talibans in the 80's.

Even if it's game over for the man, why are we celebrating it?

Now that's worthy of a celebration, we don't see a pig riding a horse everyday.

you forgot

"Who?"

and

"Who cares?"
Maybe people that thinks freedom of speech should be used more wise than for taliban poster girls ?

Or we can throw freedom of speech out the window and enjoy the propaganda ...

Interesting what he chose to remove

Sorry smiling guy, no place for you in this shot..... So he is telling a story with a photo but a preconceived story. kind of a **** move.
Just like he shot a portrait of a 12 year old girl because at the age of 13 all females start their career as house slaves and are forced to wear a burqa by "freedom fighters" .

And just like he managed to remove the burqa 17 years later.

And who is this woman ? She don't follow the rules of the freedom fighters.

Reagan and the mujihedeen 1983. Photoshop this McCurry !

He's sure getting some negative press, but maybe that doesn't bother him. We'll see.

This kind of argument for me seems to be mixing up two separate issues. That is rules/standards for actual photojournalism and the same for art when it comes to cloning. There are obvious reasons for banning where possible and looking negative on when not cloning in work clearly presented as political photojournalism(which I don't think this McCurry pictures are anyway) but this can't be used as a judgement on the morals of the use of cloning in art photography(which I think these photos are).

Personally I don't think theres any "dishonesty" in these images, if they were photojurnolism they might fall foul of an anti cloning rule but they certainly would not be an example of why that rule exists. None of the cloning for me has any impact on a potential the social/political message of the images in question.

Let it go. This story is done and dusted until someone who actually has some influence on the answer to your question make a move.

Yeah, I'd say his credibility is pretty much shot. He's running on empty--on the vestiges of esteem people once held him in.

He ought to bow out now, before he is completely bereft of what little dignity he has left.

You're saying that McCurry is a modern-day Mussolini?

Hmm....could be, could certainly be...

And here I was, thinking to myself: "Oh man, McCurry must be ancient, if he was around, back then, to have taken that photo of Mussolini."

I would imagine the bookmakers got quite a laugh out of Hitler's choice to ally himself with that clown. Talk about a setback for **** Germany.

Hitler's glum (almost mournful) stare, upon the realization that Mussolini really was a 'tactical idiot.'

We're only a few posts in and a thread on McCurry has now shifted in the direction of Mussolini and Hitler.
