latest LightRoom CC 2015 update destroys LR as a professional DAM. DO NOT LOAD THE UPDATE

Other than the changed import UI, my version (including the latest patch) shows all imported photos as pitch black. Initially I thought that the pictures are blank but turned out they're set to exposure -5.0!!!

This is how LR6 looks like after an import.

So now, I have to go to each photo and click the Auto tone option in the Develop module to see it.

I did not go to CC. And after this fiasco I never will. Happy with LR 5.7 and PS 6.

How can Adobe be so stupid?

What in the world does CC have to do with it? You would have had the same issue with the local version of the program.

Except I did not get offered an 'update' (or perhaps better described as a 'disimprovement') because I have been stranded in the place where things still work and I still own the software, instead of the software owning me. CC was a bad deal - a honey trap - from the get-go. Its sole purpose was to make it easy on Adobe, so they did not have to work so hard to keep the people signed up for their subscription service. Why do they need to do a good job when so many are trapped by their huge time and inventories in the Adobe 'ecosystem'?

So yeah, if I bought a LR update that was this bad, I would have sent it back for a refund. You do not have that choice because of the 'convenient' subscription you have with Adobe. Right now it seems more convenient for Adobe than for any of their subscribers.

Or maybe you think this is the one and only time they are going to jerk you around? If so, I have a nice bridge you may be interested in... No pun intended, of course.

What the hell are you ranting about? Adobe put out a bad update for both their CC customers and those who own the outright product. That's the whole point. I couldn't care less whether you go to Lightroom CC or not. If you were not a CC customer you would still be in this "fiasco". So I fail to see how this "fiasco" has any relation at all to whether CC is a good idea or not.

You don't have to accept updates from the subscription service.

For those of us who are curious but don't use Light room 6, is there a video or a page that shows what the new import is like (more than just that photo from Adobe with the grayed photos)? Actually I've always thought their import was pretty lousy, but it doesn't sound like any of the issues were really fixed in this change.

I did some benchmark testing (informal) with my Macbook Pro Retina, comparing the total time it took to copy/paste files from a card onto the hard drive then have Lightroom import them, and having Lightroom do the whole process. Working with a large number of raw files, did three different times. Doing the file movement separate from the import was significantly faster.

It also gets your cards freed up fast - then you can let Lightroom chunk through all the importing into the catalog while you go have dinner...

It is wise of you to dismiss a critique of Adobe and the CC strategy as a rant. That helps when you wonder if their corporate strategy cares about you as a photographer. If you actually thought about what I wrote you may not feel so secure that Adobe's interests parallel yours.

And, having just read Adobe's latest post-apology blog post on why they changed the import function, it is clear the are telling CC users to suck it up and live with the changes.

Like I said. What a mess.

They clearly don't want to admit they got it wrong. A pity, because I had been thinking about going CC, but this kind of thing destroys user loyalty.

if Adobe were going to make radical changes they should have waited to a full version update or trailed it in use. It's clear this is a dog of an import dialogue that works for new users but no one else.

I suggest you download the C1 trial and try it yourself. That's what I did. I liked some of it more than Lightroom and some of it less. C1 has (or at least had) a specific bug that only applies to the Nikon D600 RAW files and only when moving the WB slider in a specific way... unfortunately I use a D600 and use the WB slider exactly like that... Other than that I only wish it had a mask for sharpening like in Lightroom (I use it almost always when sharpening) and a couple of other issues I could easily get used to.

Overall results from C1 were at least as good if not better than Lightroom. Not enough to bother changing anyway, but definitely ok if I feel I have to change (which might happen only when I upgrade my camera, which so far no company has come up with anything even close to that).

Had a heated discussion with Adobe Support yesterday, apparently they are receiving lots of feedback! Anyway, after 10 mins with support I decided to update, try it and then roll back if I couldn't use it after the update. I 'n not finding it so bad actually after the impromptu mini tutorial.

I'm not saying I prefer it, just that I can mostly work in a similar (or close anyway) way to how I used to.

Here's what I now do.

1. In LR Preferences | General turn off Show "Add Photos" Screen

2. Hit Import

3. Hit Gear icon in top RH corner

4. Now from file handling choose Copy and the chose your Destination Folder check Into Subfolder check box and add a subfolder name

5. The last folder now becomes the default import folder until you change it again which suits me

Anyway, I import to LR straight from the SD card rather than saying to my HDD first so this sequence works OK for me. I guess if I added the images to location A on a HDD I could also use copy in this same way.

Anyway hope maybe this helps some of you a little. I'm going to see how it goes for a while using this approach.

I loaded Adobe's latest update to LR6 CC 2015 only to find out that for some ungodly reason Adobe has completely dumbed down the import function of the program and its functionality.

There is no longer a MOVE function or an eject card function among other features that made LightRoom a world class DAM. And this they did without informing users.

I hope that adobe can correct this error... Maybe have a LightRoom Elements for those that don't need to see what the program is doing... or care. But if this is the direction they are going with LR then it's ADIOS.
This is somewhat old news but it was blogged 10 days ago that Adobe will be restoring the old import features back into LR on their next update, whenever that is. You can read the blog (Journal) here: Lightroom 6.2 Import Update. For those that can't wait, there's also a link in the post that tells how to revert to the previous version before the features were removed.

Oh, and here's the uproar that "helped" Adobe change course - Lightroom: Restore features removed from Import in LR 6.2 / CC 2015.2

Peace

Lightroom never was a good DAM solution for me, I feel photo mechanic is for purely taking care of thousands of collections of photo's the best and also fastest solution. Unfortunately it's just that.

Good to know although to be honest the change did not bother me a lot. It still did what I wanted it to do and I can't say I found the earlier version that fantastic either.
