I have seen you are from China, so you might be interested to know that this flash is made in Honk Kong and someone reported it's also sold there for very low price, but I can't give you any precise source. If you have any friend in HK you may ask...

Your site says the Digi-slave DSF-1 is a slave only flash but olympus has a ttl-pc cable for the c-3040z and the DSF-1 says it can be used with a hot shoe.

If I get a "cold" shoe that becomes "hot" when connected to a PC cable and mount it on a bracket will that work?

I'm not familiar with any of the stuff I just said/asked so don't flame me

It's supposed to be an AF assist but doesn't work with C-730, it disappear too quickly...so far this has been my experience.

Yeah, it should work, if you want a flash that can be used as both a slave and a generic non-TTL flash. You could also buy a Vivitar 283 and Wein digital slave peanut for the same amount as you would spend on the DS-1 and pc-sync to hot-shoe converter, which might give you more power. I need to update the site, the DS-20 from Sunpak that Ritz sells for $29.95 (guide 59 feet at ISO 100, which is roughly 20-25 feet in automatic mode) is also an option if you don't need the power of the DS-1 (guide 79 feet at ISO 100, roughly 30-45 feet in automatic mode). FWIW, a guide of 79 might not be powerful enough if you are going to bounce the flash off of a ceiling or wall, unless your subjects are fairly close.

Hmmm, it works fine with my C-2100UZ. You do have to half press the shutter release button to get a focus lock. For me, the red light stays on while I have the shutter release 1/2 pressed.

The red area is the AF assist lamp. I've gotten it to work ~ 40 feet in complete darkness. Note, when you get the Olympus module, the flash does not have an independent light meter, it uses the camera TTL connection to determine when to cut off the light. If you want to use the flash as a generic non-TTL flash, you need to also get the generic adapter (model number 71177), which has a builtin light meter, and hot-shoe + pc-sync support.

The differences are, it is smaller than the 5750DX, the 5550DX has the ability to tilt down 7 degrees, which is helpful for macro photography, it only has a guide number of 100 (compared to 130), it doesn't have a manual zoom option on the lens, and it doesn't have a front fill light (you could use the camera's flash as a fill light).

The usual price for the adapters is $60, but in the past McAlisters has offered a better deal if you call them up, and mention you saw a deal on the internet (it is usually mentioned in the Sony forum at least once a week, which is where I discovered it).

Interesting to know...I remember I was pressing halfway the shutter as you described, but didn't work. Tomorrow I could try again to be sure.

Could it be a difference between C-2100 and C-730? The C-2100 has a builtin AF illuminator lamp, so it might be its firmware is able to handle it, while the C-730 doesn't feature one and so is not able even to drive the external one on the flash...
just a theory...

Interesting - I have the MS-1 and it does not work with the Olympus cameras I tried it with (2020, 2100, D40) (reacts to preflash).

McAlisters has a great price right now. I just paid $49 for the Promaster #9901. ($8 shipping but I also got a Promaster 5750dx flash and Promaster flash grip).
