I am assuming this is a mistake?

The price has been discounted too - which is either good news or a sign that the V3 really is being discontinued. - I can't find any other signs that the V3 is being discontinued elsewhere.

I suspect this is a major error on the part of Amazon, the US site does not show discontinued. I know Nikon have reported bad financials recently but it's unlikely they would drop a product so soon after release.

Discounted? Body, 10-30 lens, EVF + grip for just under £1000 (including tax) - about $1600....

It is being Dispatched from and sold by PHOTO UNIVERS in France
  • Customer Services Address:
    • SA PHOTOFLASH
    • 2 QUAI VILLEBOIS MAREUIL
    • BLOIS
    • 41000
    • FR
I presume the product details for items for sale via other sellers are provided by the seller - so maybe Photo Univers got it wrong, not Amazon per se?

They have been the main V3 seller via Amazon as only Wex and Jessops are official UK stockists. Everyone else had been sourcing from Europe and Hong Kong.

Seems like a marketing technique to get people to buy. April in the date too?

With the Nikon AF Micro-Nikkor 200mm f/4D IF-ED also showing up as discontinued by manufacturer, Nikon may be dumping all their dead weight items? They may have some great new stuff coming out. Wishful thinking here.

The body only kit has been discounted $50 US in Japan.

I phoned my local friendly camera shop.... they said its not discontinued as far as they know but then they can't sell it anyway as Nikon have restricted it to two retailers in the UK...and other 1 series cameras are still in short supply...apart from J1's which he has a 'pile' of........

He also added that both Nikon and Olympus are a total nightmare to deal with as regards stock availability, the other brands are fine......

Nikon have made a right shambles of 1 series marketing and really do need to get their act together..... I actually quite fancy buying a V3 and 70-300CX despite Nikons best endeavours to put me off.... :-(

I can't help it. I always said what made me hesitate so much with the Nikon 1 system was Nikon, the company, not the camera.

This would prove that well beyond shadow of the doubt :-)

But, I bought the J4 and kit knowing Nikon could nuke the system within 2 years. As they say where I was born "En guerra avisada no muere gente" ("In pre-announced war, nobody dies"). I guess I will die but willingly :-)

We'll see where this leads. It probably is an Amazon mistake, or maybe Nikon discontinued specific kits in Europe (which maybe they will re-introduce as something else). I wouldn't make much of it yet.

i'm quite happy buying the bodies 2nd hand for a song, saying that the price of the V3 in Thailand with grip and EVF is same price as just the body here....lets see how it all pans when i go back there next March

An updated list of all discontinued Nikon products - includes the V3! :-(
It's difficult to say that the V3 is truly discontinued yet, but don't find it inconceivable. Far from it actually. There is a story to be told when the 1 systems up's and down's have settled. I really would love to be inside the HG of Nikon and learn the true story about their decision making process in regards to the J4, S2, and V3 launch and its effect on Nikon.

Interesting. The camera was announced on March 13, 2014 ... so it's only been out about 5 months now.

The V2 was announced on Oct 24, 2012

The V1 was announced on Sep 21, 2011

So there was about a year for the first iteration, a little over a year and a half for the second interation, and now, 5 months for the 3rd iteration? lol

I hope the V4 has some additional controls to allow for a little easier running in M mode.

I'd love to see a dedicated ISO dial, and maybe a wheel w/ button activation to switch between shutter and aperture.

I just looked at B&H, and there are 27 different Nikon 1 cameras listed for sale, brand new, dating all the way back to the original release of the S1 !

Talk about stock overload.

1. Built in EVF.

2. Better dynamic range.

3. Better noise handling.

4. No more mega pixels till 2 and 3 resolved first.

5. Built in GPS.

I'm happy buying second hand too - I think I will look out for a nice used V2 instead. All this uncertainty is off putting.
