What's the deal with this board?

to me, this forum has gotten really boring lately because most of
the posts i've been seeing lately are from people who post their
photos looking for comments. it just gets really boring reading the
same comments over and over and over again. i'm also bored of the
generic subject material (such as flowers and cats) that a lot of
people have been posting lately. it's nice to look at other
people's work but it just seems that people are just looking for
attention (like your thread here, no offense). don't get upset if
nobody has anything to say about a particluar photo because most
likely they really don't have anything to say cause if they did
then they would have.
John, have you looked at any of my fish??? Certainly they are as unique of pics that can be posted. I disagree 100% with this junk.
also like daniella, i don't really critique anymore because many
people have fragile feelings. they ask for comments and critiques
but when your honest with them they get upset. it just seems that
most people are looking for a pat on the back. not everyone is like
this though, there are alot of people here who honestly want to
learn.
You ever read the title line on my pic threads?? I disagree again, srongly.

People are just trying to learn things from their respected peers. For me at least. :-)

I have not looked at your images so I can't comment on them.

The wider question that you pose about the effect of standing within this group is a valid one. I think if you have something to say then you will generally get a response from someone here. The size of the response you get may well depend whether you are perceived as a 'regular' member of the group. I think that is largely human nature.

There are other forums such as Samples and Galleries that you might want to try if you are genuinely interested in feedback on your work. Someone will usually comment over there. Wherever you end up posting your messages remember that no response is a kind of response. Be willing to accept that behavior and try again.

didn't know this site allowed the same user ID against different IP addresses!

No wonder you thought the thread had been deleted when it doesn't show up on this profile.
I post a picture (two days ago) taken with my Minolta 7i and ask
for opinions... Guess I wasn't popular enough to get more than one
reply as of last night. Then today the thread is gone... Do you
have to be part of someone's inner circle to be part of this board?

yes parker i have seen all of your posts. yes the fish were interesting but they become less interesting the more you post them. how many times do you want people to comment on the same subject matter.

here are 3 of your subject lines:

pIc-O-dAy #3 Can you tear it up or what??

pics o day II trash em if the suck!

Pics o day. Kick em hard if they suck.

to me they scream out "i'm looking for compliments"... why would you or anyone write 'trash them if they suck'??? my guess is because you want to hear people saying 'no parker they don't suck'.

thank you for proving my point about fragile feelings. you can't even let someone post their thoughts without jumping all over them, why would anyone want to truthfully critique your work when you do this. this is why i don't bother commenting on people's work when they ask for it because most of the time all they want to hear is compliments....

By the way I wasn't talking about you or anyone in general. It's just been my observation of the forum recently. My tastes in photography greatly differ then most here. For example, I don't like flowers, rivers, cats, sunsets, etc. It's not that they are bad it's just that I need something that has great interest to me to keep my attention or I get really really bored, therefore I don't comment on them.

I thik more than a few eyes travel through here!!!!! Maybe hundreds, thousands, millions, tens of thousands. I don't really care if you get tired of them. Actually, I could care less. It is the people that are brave enough to try smash them up, that helps me learn abot my MINOLTA. I value cropping, exposure, and...............other comments. If a pat on the back comesl, great. I am looking to find out what to do better from my friends and other lurkers here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No some anon megasite full of dimwits.

What $%%$%^ are you talking about, If I wanted more compliments, I would go to a gallery, duhh. Why don't you check net54, there you will find out what is supposed to happen when you post a pick. Try the photosharing side.

They are to draw EYES, don't you know anything about drawing traffic??

This ain't gettin it here either. You are bitching about cats and a bunch of other rap. Some of the most popular threads at DPR are cat threads. DUhhhh.

I agree with Mike... ouch!

Anyway, I seem to recall Clifford is in the minority, wasn't there a thread a while back where everyone affirmed that they wanted you, Melanie etc. to all stay, even though you have moved on to the bigger world of a DSLR?
This little black duck has no problems with the 'GURU's' staying anyway!
Bry

for opinions... Guess I wasn't popular enough to get more than one

have to be part of someone's inner circle to be part of this board?
--------------------------------------------
I've noticed over the past few months, this forum has attracted too

many GURU's. People who love atttention and develope a "following".
Now

many of them , who think the forum can't live without them are trying

to make it a sub branch of the CANON forum. Looking in here is almost

like a religious CANON D-10 crusade, with everyone saying "AMEN".

Almost no room for those who want to talk MINOLTA. What toys they

buy or what they do with them borders on "trolling" for converts.
IMHO!!
You are full of $hit, and I can prove it.

For starters, here's a breakdown of the threads on the first page:

12 threads directly Minolta related
6 about what is or is not appropriate to post on this forum
4 about pictures
3 about general photography-related things
2 about relative merits of DSLR's of various makes versus Minolta 7
series
3 about other miscellaneous topics

"Almost no room for those who want to talk MINOLTA," eh?

Ol' Clifford might be a bit of a n00bie when it comes to Internet
forums, so here's something you might want to know: 12/30 = 40%,
which is an amazingly high S/N ratio for an unmoderated forum --
and here the S/N ratio is calculated the strictest possible way.
You may not consider my photography experience worth much, but I do
know a thing or two about Internet forums: I've been around them
since 1992, starting with rec.arts.books.tolkien on the Usenet.

Now, let's see what ol' cranky Cliff has been up to, since he says
he's so keen to talk MINOLTA [sic].

So, here's a breakdown of Cliffy's postings made in the past month:

3 affirming faith in the D7UG (with no substantive comment)
3 miscellaneous (it's "moderator," by the way, not "modulater.")
2 bitching about the supposed "Canonization" of this forum
2 Minolta-related (1 of which an answer to a direct question from
yrs trly)
1 general photography related

So, 2 out of 11 posts with actual substantive comment about Minolta
cameras. That puts Cliff's S/N ratio at 18.1%.

Recall that the forum's overall S/N ratio was 40%.

Oo, Cliff -- looks like YOU'VE been degrading the S/N ratio here.
The very message to which I'm responding is a good example: someone
posts a question with a technical answer, and you reply with a
gratuituous tirade of bitching and moaning about how the forum is
going to pot.

Your "religious crusade" language is also starting to look pretty
telling, in light of your obvious need to testify to your faith in
the D7UG and bash anyone so much as mentioning alternatives to it,
not to mention your capitalization of MINOLTA. I've seen that usage
before, and not with a camera brand. (At least you don't go so far
as to asterisk out the O.)

You know, Clifford -- it's quite classic, externalizing stuff like
that. Makes you wonder about your disparaging talk about GURUS,
attention, and followings, doesn't it? Could it be that ol' cranky
Clifford is... JEALOUS?

Hey, Clifford -- you're among the most senior, knowledgeable, and
experienced people on this board. Why don't you actually SHARE some
of the knowledge, and you could be a guru too! Start by answering
the occasional newbie question about Minolta D7's, and then maybe
one or two general photography related. Before you know it, you'll
be giving lessons and building up a "following" of your own!

Finally: Please substantiate your allegation about a pattern of
forum regulars wanting to turn this into a 10D evangelist
convention (yes, it's 10D, not D-10: looks like you can't read any
better than you can count). It ought to be simple: just look up the
threads where you've seen people going AMEN at Canon. If you can't
do this, I expect you to be a man and post a public apology.

In other words, Clifford, I'm not putting up with $hit like this.
Prove your allegations, or take your snide comments somewhere else.
And do try to contribute something of substance every once in a
while: we all know you have the knowledge.

Cheers, Petteri

PS. Why not stand up and be counted in the vote I called? Or do you
prefer to continue taking bitching and moaning and taking
pot-shots, hiding behind supposedly justified responses to other
threads?

PPS. And DON'T hit enter after every line -- it's unnecessary and
makes you very annoying to quote.

that's great that you are actually trying to learn something. but have to admit that 'trash them if they suck' isn't a very attractive or intelligent subject line. i understand that you are trying to get peoples attention but the way you are going about it is rather childish. and don't you think that complaing about nobody commenting on a photo is also childish.

I agree with John.
This is a Minolta Forum, for Minolta discussion and issues.
There probably should be another forum for photo critiques, as
I believe this is an entirely different subject.
Just because an image was produced on a Minolta, I don't
think it means that it is relevant.
The only exception is where there are image
qualities/issues/characteristics directly influenced by a
Minolta product.
also like daniella, i don't really critique anymore because many

I ain't upset?
someone asked why there wasn't any comments to their

I am not angry either, just straightforward and truthful, always.
you say that you want people to trash you work but you get

enough
to comment on some of the recent posted photos.
What???? You are making stuff up now, I don"t want YOU looking at my pics. I asked you if you ever had. Back to the Duhhh again or what??
you haven't said

You must have gone mad. Can't you read ?? The title spells it out. Go to net54 or click on my name and read the threads, I have posted around 10-15 here 50 at net 54. Do some reading, please stop making things up.

I think Petteri's comments are just what Minolta user want to hear. This is someone that is very familiar with the pros and cons of the D7x series and can give insight that is not as biased as a die-hard "Canonite".

I don't know how to thank him more for his comments and insight - its not from the wave the Canon flag camp, its straight from the hip if u got a D7x cam you like this and you'll miss that blah, blah, blah. That's what I want, unbiased truth because all I want to be is a photographer taking good pictures - people looking at my pictures aren't impressed with what I took them with, they just see the pics.

I love my 7i, but it got issues and I'm not afraid to admit it - neither is he.

Brand loyalty is dead - I want the best tool for my money, period!!

To tell you the truth, I've been looking really hard at the 10D myself, and if you want to label me as a victim of trolling then reel me on in because he got me hook line and sinker!!!

I'd own one if it wasn't for my wedding in a month or so!

How many "Goodbye Minolta" post do you need to see to know that people really desire the extra capability - if within their budgets - the 10D provides.

As old as the D7x series is, there is no possible way for us to keep talking about "ONLY" the camera, I'm sure all topics have been covered and can be found if we looked.

I'm guilty of this myself!! Several times start a thread with a question only for someone to reply with a link to a thread posted before.

Of course this fourm gets off topic at times, so what! Great photography is what brought us together.

Again thanks for keeping all us DSLR to be owners in the loop of what we have to gain by making the big jump!

PS. I'm still laughing at that slam..(I'm an engineer so the S/N analogy cracks me up!)

PPS. Still laughing....LOL

How am I to know how to adjust and aim my MINOLTA no one wants to travel the entire net for one discussion. Think about it.
