Most inspiring photo of all time....

I would say the first moon walk.

HOwever, there is another photo that had a lasting impression on me. It is clearly not the most important of all time. THe photo was the one taken in FLorida when the US army folks came to take the small CubanChild from US relatives(who lost his mother at Sea) and eventually send him back to cuba. THere was a photo of a big gun pointing at this small innocent child. The expression on his face with those big guns pointing at him -- wow. That photo has had a lasting impression because I wonder how he must have felt and how scared he must have been at that moment. I wonder how much that may have damaged him psychologically.
For me it's the photo of the individual single handedly stopping
the tank column before the Tiananmen Square massacre.

............... and it may transpire that the Russians were not first in space either and that as many as a dozen people died in the attempts.

But still a fairy tale about a "star wars" anti missile project brought down the USSR, now I don't know what's more scary, the fact that the moon landing was a lie or that a lie brought down an empire.

Still, as was pointed out in another thread, the real reason for the deceit was to give us all beautiful technologies to play with, we’d have never developed them the way we were going.

................. we know students were crushed and that the deaths were covered up as best as possible, but this single international incident did occur as described.

isn't that one of the photo's that was faked for the moonlanding
that never happened?
I saw a program on TV about how they say it was all faked and I
must say the evidence is pretty scary.
Get a grip. Thousands would have to have been in on that false conspiracy. And you want me to believe that not one person has flapped their jaw or written a book?

Get real, the rights to the truth of that phony story would be worth millions. And not one low level dummy has stepped up.

It's all conjecture based upon a false premise. Those that put the story together are the phonies making money at the truth's expense.

.................. the columns of tanks stopped, there are three columns of tanks and they all stopped together, but there was only one student standing in from of one line.

At this stage the students thought they were winning and more arrived and started to climb on the tanks. They began to advance in number towards the other tanks and as the TV camera is pulled away we see the lead tank, now covered with students lurch forward and the students start to fall off ………….

Transmission was cut and we see no more except long distance tele shots, which are grainy and just show a commotion.

What happened to the solitary student? Another post on this a few weeks back suggested that he survived the tank ordeal only to be shot later along with several others identified as “ringleaders”.

For me it's the photo of the individual single handedly stopping
the tank column before the Tiananmen Square massacre.

How bout you?
I'd go for the one of the Vietnamese children running after a
napalm attack.
How did that photo "inspire" you as opposed to "awe" you?

The gentleman that stood infront of the tank column, inspires one to be brave in the face of overwhelming adversity. He never even dropped the bag he was carrying in his hand.

This photo only shows that he stood in front of the tank...not sure
if the tank ran over him...

If you've seen tanks up close, the clearence under the center of the tank is sufficent to clear a human.

I saw the footage of the confrontation, is was maybe twenty or thirty seconds of footage. The tank went right and the student went with the lead tank. The tank went left and the student went with the tank.

From what I've heard, the student was carried off not to be heard from again. I don't know the truth as to the finality of the situation but if the stories of the Chinese government are true, the man is currently a dead man.

I can only hope for his sake that his death was quick and not accompanied by torture first.

This reason and this reason alone is sufficent for me to be willing to commit troops for the purpose of taking dictators around the world out.

The torturing of disagreeing citizens, around the world, has to stop.

W. Eugene Smith captured his own children walking hand-in-hand in a
garden. For me it represents all the potential in the world for
peace and goodness. How's THAT for fuzzy, female thinking?
Why does it have to be split into male/female thinking and why the need to condecend a man's point of view.

"Oh you WOMEN!"

That comment would be considered a rude, in your face, antagonistic, male chavanistic comment that was out of place, if written by a guy. And I consider it to be such when written, even in humor, by a gal.

You gals do need to get with your program of being nice to each other and include men in the thinking process.

Please don't start a contest here, if you want to rip me, go to e-mail, I'll let you tussel with my wife's attitude towards these matters of social inequality between the sexes.

Found it but only as a GIF. It still gets the message acorss.

Photo: While undergoing spina bifida surgery in utero, 21-week-old fetus Samuel Armas grips the finger of Dr. Joseph Bruner through the incision.

I don't know where to find this one, but it is a photo of a newborn
grabbing the doctors finger as he saved the baby. Can anyone help
me find it? It is one of the most powerful photo I've seen.

I agree with Beth. One of my favorites (not just because I took it :-), is the one below. It captures the innocence and promise of youth and inspires me to make the world a better place for my daughter. How's that for sappy?!

over the twisted remains of the World Trade Center.

That surely IS fuzzy thinking. :-) But, it's good that you're able to self-reflect with objectivity.....

One for me as a Brit is a photo of St. Paul's Cathedral, in London, during the blitz in the Second World War, defiantly standing untouched while everything around it was in rubble and enveloped by the smoke and fire from all the bombing.

Though way before my time, I'm told it totally summed up the defiant mood and stoic resistance of Londoners during the war and became an iconic symbol of the British war effort, and as such I feel it deserves to take its place up there with some of the other great and inspiring images of the last century.

I can't remember where I first saw that shot, but I know it's in Steichen's "Family of Man" catalog- which is full of magical images that speak to the best and worst in humanity. It's definitely nice to see some people still value the best our species has to offer. There's more than enough chest pounding, armchair generals around to remind us of the worst we have to offer.

I wanted to go and take pictures like that, never made it and lacked the courage.
The gentleman that stood infront of the tank column,
................. was a fool and an idiot! That's not something to aspire to, or be inspired by. That’s plain dumb. Guess they did not teach him much in a Chinese university.

A few well placed petrol bombs and a little help from Osama and friends would have the Chinese leadership out in a fortnight, …. Well did the US ever find him?

I believe the above site has an article that debunks this story fairly well.

And, yes, flags would behave on the moon exactly like they did in the images sent back to earth. LOL.
