Fuji Mirrorless leaked

You know what would be amazing? If they spec-ed the mount to cover up to FF, started with an APS-C to start out with, but eventually come out with a FF too. That 35mm f/1.4 on FF would make me think about liquidating everything else I have and switching.
A FF 35mm 1.4 is a BIG lens. Larger than I'd want to use on a compact camera. And very expensive.
FF SLR 35mm f/1.4 is a big lens for sure--I have the 35L for Canon. 35mm f/1.4 for mirrorless could be quite a bit smaller though. See Leica 35mm f/1.4 for comparison. I know they'd have to put in an AF motor but still. It doesn't have to be huge per se.

Read marc's post on that website:

"My photo finisher mentioned it to me Friday. He is a Fuji distributor, the Fuji rep told him, the model is the Fuji LX, APS-C sensor, 3 lenses to start with – from the Chinese website, it appears to be an 18mm f/2, a 35mm 1f/1.4 and a 60mm something and the body will be priced @ 1,400. It will be called the Fuji LX. He said that it wouldn’t be available until Spring 2012. It’s going to be demonstrated at CES 2012 in January though."

Look at the control layout. No gimmicky settings wheel, just EV compensation and shutter speed. It looks like the shutter button has threads for a cable release(!). No idea how their hybrid viewfinder will handle focal lengths from 8mm to 400mm, but if it works... Full-frame (so sayeth the rumors). No onboard flash. Metal body. Oy.

Fuji is going all-out for the people who put a captal E in enthusiast. Not to mention it fits almost exactly the hypothetical body that die-hard m4/3 fans have demanded for ages. Only with a bigger sensor. I hope that Fuji prices it out of my range because I really do not need that temptation right now.

Without Leica M glass.

In that respect, it appears to be a logical extension to the X100: same retro look, probably the same excellence in image capturing, but without the fixed lens. I would guess also that the price will be elevated as well, like the X100.

However... if it can accept Leica M glass, and isn't too hard to operate in a full manual mode, it could be an interesting option for those of us who use M on M43 already.

Note the body in the spy photo: not small.

Hi Shood,

How does the hybrid viewfinder work on different lens focal lengths?

Does it change and focus according to your lens?

I have both X100 and X10 and both VFs are stationary.
It will have the hybrid VF from the x100, 1/4000 shutter speed and notice the aperture controls on the lens. The first 3 lenses will likely be 18mm f2 pancake, 35mm f1.4, 60mm ?. Apparently it will use a new sensor technology (Organic CMOS?).

The next man I see with a colored camera, I'll invite him for a drink !
Well it is somewhat stretched, a pink or a purple would be better :-). But I see you have a Nex 5n too (at least you are posting there too). So if you come nearby and allow me to try your Nex, then may be you can have half of a drink ;-).

Ps : talking to myself, I should rather be careful, as not everyone is living oversea...
Do you accept my red GF1 as colored enough for an invite?

Else, yes - the Nikon 1 system is bound to do well. And sad that Fuji didn´t go the MFT route. The MFT format could use some inspiration, I feel a growing scepticism concerning the innovative potential of Pana/Oly and some aspects of their model line-up are just too strange.

You know I didn't look closely, I thought that was ISO on that dial, but wow you're right. Between that and on-lens aperture dials... this thing is super retro-tastic.

People often clamor for a poor-man's Leica. Well, here it is - and most likely it'll be better than the M9 in every respect to boot.

If it's FF, I think it could be a huge game changer. If the rumors are right and it's APS-C, it still looks incredibly awesome, but its appeal for use with manual FF lenses is going to be greatly reduced :(

Yes, it puzzles me as well. Does the OVF have a grid that changes size according to lens FL to show the AoV? If so, it should be awkward with longer FL lenses.

Wouldn't it just work like a rangefinder's VF, in that the VF is just a window and depending on attached lens's focal length it shows a different size brightline box to indicate framing?

The mirrorless market is evolving fast. The Nikon 1 system with its incredibly high frame rates and electronic shutter and the new Sony NEX with a superb integrated viewfinder and electronic first shutter are pretty innovative products. And the sensors used by Nikon and Sony aren´t bad either. In comparison, the latest Oly model still features a dinosaur sensor design and the Pana GX1 is a very late and somewhat lethargic update of the "classic" GF1. Just try to imagine what a guy like Steve Jobs would have done with a market opportunity like MFT. Definitely time to wake up, but companies like Oly and Pana probably fail to do so.

It's more likely to use bright line frames to show the fields of view of the various focal lengths, such as:

(...image is from the DPReview review of the Leica M9).

Some P&S cameras have zooming viewfinders, but the split prism in the Fuji's hybrid viewfinder would probably make that impossible. But the hybrid viewfinder could mean that only the frames appropriate for the mounted lens would be displayed.

my 35mm M-mount voigtlaner is tiny .... if those clever fuji chaps can squeeze AF in the 21mm on on X-100 they can most likely do the same on an interchangeable lens camera .....

The zoom on the other hand get big!

The always could go the tri-elmar route though.

I suspect that like me, many others thought the X100 was very much a "Test the water" camera to see if people liked the styling and hybrid finder as well as the sensor quality and a fixed lens version was cheaper than changable lenses in case of lack of take up.

It appears the majority of people who own the X100 like it and are more than pleased with the quality of image, the main criticism appears to be based around focus but as I am not an X100 owner / user and have never used one, I cannot comment.

If there is any truth in the rumour it could be the water was warm and Fuji have decided to proceed with a CSC albeit APS-C sensor - the images show what appears to be a fairly large bodied camera with what looks like a rangefinder / X100 style viwefinder window and another shots shows what looks like a lever to swop the frame lines in the same way Leica rangefinders do.

It will be interesting to see how this all manifests itself in a production model and it could be a serious contender to current CSC's as well as Leica providing build quality, reliability and optics are all up to scratch and the price is sensible.

As much as I rate and love Leica's including my M8.2, I like many others have experienced issues with reliability and had the long frustrating absence while waiting for Leica Solms to do their bit - I do also feel I am using it on borrowed time and even more so now that Kodak has gone into demise - does Leica have sufficient spare sensors to cope with known / but not admitted issues?

If the right camera at the right price comes along, I may just be tempted to trade my M8.2 in..............I would miss it though as it is a superb piece of build equipment when working efficiently!

Okay I got it now. Any idea how does it work on a zoom lens?
