New Samsung Camera?

I take, that by now, you are only reading these posts and you are not allowed to reply anymore...too bad, maybe this thread should be started at the open forum...anyway, many will love the specs you mentioned...samsung and not samsung users would love to have a camera like that...look at the X100 success.... ...and im not even a samsung camera owner..but soon enough will be.... :)
Last night I attended a market research session on a new camera design, they showed a mock up and spec of a new camera with a dSLR like spec and 24MP APS C size sensor, in a small retro body, with interchangeable lenses

I don't think that's a very strong argument. Liveview on a DSLR is relatively new and generally not that usable. Most users will rely on the OVF. If you only have the screen to compose your shots the step to an articulated screen is far more logical.
Sony's had great Live View DSLRs since around 2008. It's very usable... IIRC, they're the only manufacturer to use phase shift focusing in their live view implementation.

The only reason why I went with Sony SLRs is because they have a good implementation of live view combined with articulating screens. I probably would have gotten something else if it were not for that.

Of course, these days, you could go mirrorless and reap the same benefits, but when I got my first Sony, m4/3rds had just been announced.

Awful news, if people really respond "we would not buy if it was samsung"...its the marketing from samsung that is wrong.Go to the main digital cameras page on their site, the main photo is from the NX100, the NX200 appears in a shy way among a list of cameras below...i wonder who they called for this market research, and if because of this, this camera may never hit the market... great lenses, bad marketing:Samsung.
They still want to push the NX100. Likely due to an agreement with Best Buy and/or other retailers that have inventory to move (regardless of whether they actually discontinue it).

I doubt that's an error on their part. The NX200 was only just announced.

If they'll release a camera like that at such a price then what is up with NX200? Seems Samsung is just playing around. seeing what they can get away with and not, sitting on all this cool tech but saving the big guns for later. Definitely going to hold off buying any NX body upgrade til next year.

I agree it seems something weird is happening. The DIS/touchscreen stuff listed for the NX200 and then removed later... The fact that the whole listing has changed and been removed at least once from Samsung's site, and now this 24MP focus group thing. I wouldn't be surprised if the NX200 itself gets a some kind of revamp or re-pricing by the time it's formally released.

I'd kill for an NX1000 with those specs, swivel AMOLED, 10fps and looking like that prototype. Then again, Sony could've had my business with a camera that almost exactly matches that description -- if it weren't for their limited e mount selection and questionable quality glass.

The final NX200 could be different in features and price, but I think Samsung is testing the market with the announce, price and rumors.
Even I would think the final released product could bring a EVF connection :0

To quote an old Star Trek movie, 'May all your guesses be right.'

The rapid vanishing act does tend to imply there might be some damage control going on... I guess we can only wait and see.

Pics gone on the second site, too.

Ghey.
The NDA damage control is interesting: often taken in the "Mac rumors" world as "confirmation".

Pics and text now all over the net! Google for "Samsung r1 rumor" and limit the search to the last 24 hours.

e.g. http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=Samsung+r1+rumor&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8#q=Samsung+r1+rumor&hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&prmd=ivns&source=lnt&tbs=qdr:d&sa=X&ei=kYZpTvKoJ-TkiALzkfm8Dg&ved=0CAgQpwUoAg&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=6b7febfebc06fd59&biw=994&bih=768

You can't put it back in the box, Pandora :-)

My take: it's an NX200 with bumped sensor and no OVF/EVF (I don't see room for it going by the "prototype pics") with manual controls. Easy to do. Minimal delta in the software. Nice price bump to $1000ish.

The image is a crop from this one of Samsung "potential" cameras that appeared on the Samsung site (along with these Hasselbladoid Samsungs). They're all NX lenses scattered about.

http://www.samsungimaging.net/2011/05/17/how-the-nx-lenses-are-launched-into-the-world-part-ii-the-nx-lens-planners/

Without the EVF it might not far well with the NEX-7 with EVF at $1200 for the really retro crowd. You really have to raise this sort of camera to eye level.

On the other hand it may have an EVF and that might explain why the NX200 doesn't have an EVF (upsell!).

Well see how this pans out if/when it ships.

while i do understand what you are saying, it contradicts everything i know about marketing...and even customers would feel misinformed...as a customer i want the latest and best tech available...even with best buy and others, your site should show the newest camera as the star of the show...otherwise, no reason to announce it now...of course, i can be mistaken... :)

Do you mean shaped like nx10/11?

a swivel screen I think is rarely a major desire on a "serious" camera.. or surely it would be used a lot more on top-class dSlr.

If you only have the screen to compose your shots the step to an articulated screen is far more logical. I bet we'll see more and more articulated screens on serious mirrorless camera's. And as the liveview on DSLRs catches up we'll see more articulated screens on DSLRs as well.

The demands of those using a camera for video would be another argument, I think.

Totally agree.

I’m sick of fixed screens; it’s like living in the dark ages. Time we all moved on and used something more appropriate.
RMW487.
I'm with you guys on that one. An articulated screen is one of the very few new technologies to actually expand your opions in terms of composition. I think the more people experience its benefits the stronger the demand will become...

I hope Samsung stop making fake SLR style NX camera.
Ditto. If I wanted a small camera that looked like an SLR, I'd get a Rebel or one of the smaller Nikons. Obviously bigger than the SLR-style mirrorless cameras, but not that much bigger and far better in terms of performance. There is very little point to making mirrorless cameras look like SLRs except to entice P&S upgraders with a more "professional-looking" camera. But what about SLR down/sidegraders who want a lower profile? If the NX20 is anything like the NEX-7 stylistically, then Samsung will have the best mirrorless system on the market (though I'm sure Sony will still sell far better).

Clueless.

With the larger style bodies, you get the built-in EVF and larger batteries (where applicable). On top of that, you get better stability with larger and/or heavier lenses, where a smaller body doesn't matter.

Some people like choices, but to think they are automatically "slr" styled cameras is clueless, especially considering the history of the SLR form-factor.

36exp has no posting history on DPR. So he "signs up" here just to tell us about this "supposed" camera that sounds very similar to Nex-7 (24 MP, retro body, and pdaf like Nex-7 does with the new adapter).

I am calling it BS
