If FT was to end, where would you go?

well, I think it had already start.

Anyway, a small setup I might keep, but end or not so, it look like Olympus and Panasonic had been and likely will not be able to field a full system for 4/3, so off go to another platform for the main system need is on the agenda.

Right now that probably goes Nikon and Canon offer the most, Sony and Pentax both having their unique advantage. its down to personal pick. I am not sure yet what to replace the 4/3 setup ( compact SLR system ) but certainly its not the m4/3

The new Olympus full frame system.

I will be going Leica M anyway. However I will keep the E-system as well - esp as my DSRL Kit.

However, due to the "poor" releases made made by Olympus I think the "new" E5 is not only Key to how much life in 4/3 is left, but also on how m4/3 will look at.

If its a "poor" Release I think the Olympus 4/3 and m4/3 System will be labelled as for "Soccer Mom's & Average Joe's" only.

If 4/3rds was to end I would buy a micro cam (E PL2 ?)+ adapter for 4/3rds lenses. I could use this for landscape photography and portraits.

For wildlife I would migrate to CaNikon. Just one lens and one body for this purpose.

To be honest I do not see this happen. I will wait for the E5 and the modular 4/3rds camera in 2011. I won't migrate as long as there is a good cam to use with the SHG lenses I own.
Obviously, we all hope that FT will continue, but if development does end; which other system do you think you'll end up with?

I have been looking around at Sony, Canon and Nikon, and am completely overwhelmed by the quantity of lenses. I have no idea where to start? I sure hope FT is here to stay for a while.

Maybe............................

Maybe not.

Nowhere! As a recent purchaser of an E-520 dual lens kit, I'll keep my E-520 body and look for some deals on lenses that I would like to have. And, I'd consider "upgrading" to a 620 body or perhaps and e-3 or e-30 if the right deal were to come along. As an enthusiast, I see no need to bail out....I'd just rather get the best out of my investment for a few years, and then see where technology has taken us.

But....for all you nervous Nellies, please bail out and help flood the market with deals on 4/3's equipment. I imagine that there are lots of us more than willing to buy your used gear at bargain prices!

You are a wise photographer.

I've one leg in it so to speak, but am still holding back a while.

The Zuiko SHG zoom lenses can't be beaten, I feel, not even by their Sony Zeiss counterparts, so I'm still awaiting new developements in 4/3 sensor technology, although I'm not really sure if the SHG lenses will get a camera that can match their quality within a reasonable time span.
I'm sure eventually....

I don't think a E5 with 12 mp and art filters and video will be a big leap in the right direction for me, not anywhere close to the A900, which is full frame, I know, but a 16mp 4/3 camera with good DR and with a minimized AA filter should be a possibility.

It's taking long however, the developments that matter to me, so when Sony release another Zeiss prime, anywhere in the region of 35-50mm, I think I will take the leap.

Thats a nice compromise if it means the transition can be taken slowly.
And technology only improves, so it might get faster...

But even if no new bodies were announced from today, and i am not suggesting that no new bodies are coming (i believe that olympus will release when ready), I would still have years before i lose the use of my current cameras.

if you can imagine the picture, then do all you can to make it

Looking at how expensive m4/3 is getting with the release of new lenses with absurd prices and almost useless apertures i just pray for Oly not to stop making 4/3 cameras because my scape was m4/3. But if 75-300mm costs $900, could you imagine the price of a weather sealed m4/3 body when they release it, or the prices of mHG or mSHG lenses?

If that day is anywhere near I better start going to the gym so I'll be able to carry a Canon T3I or T4I :) with some big and good lenses. I will be grateful to Oly for open me the doors of dslr photography and say good bye. In the end it's just a brand trying to make money the way the decide; i can't be faithful to a brand going against my pocket.

Some of us have already registered our interest in buying HG and SHG lenses at the pending "end of civilisation" prices, so you have to join the queue, buddy!

Of course, 4/3 has been pronounced dead frequently since it was first released, so it could be a long wait...

:)

...and keep 12-60 and 50F2.

I'm not decided if I should replace my 9-18 with the m/43 version.

I would sell my ZD70-300.

I would buy a converter and a PEN and 20mm f1.7 and 75-300.

After killing 4/3, Oly's m4/3 is much more likely to have top end bodies with weather-sealing along with the lenses.

And then I would wait for that before selling my 12-60 and 50F2.

Absolutely, unbelievably ridiculous. The ad nausea posts continue about what to do?

If you are tempted to do another one of these types of posts....please do a search and read through any of the hundreds of other ponderings. The subject is old and tired. It is a waste of valuable energy.

If you have become so mired in emotional angst about the future of Olympus, make a decision and go with it. Trust your own opinion. Go with your gut. Act now! Continue on or do something with a new manufacturer. Just do it!

Can we please get back to discussions about gear and image content?

Its way past old people.

Will I learn from life's lessons or will I lose my faith in the goodness life's promise had to offer?

The simple end of FourThirds would not kill my cameras, nor my lenses or flashes.
So, I'd keep using them until they stop working.

Of course, I might consider also the switch to a different type of camera, but, as it is, I already have it, so it's not exactly a switch.

I keep my options open. Anything is possible.
