well guess what after two 717s that had focusing problems the third one focuses much better still not like 707 the @#$% lcd screen and evf have gone out tried the reset nothing you hear the song and see nothing this one about 5 hours old. yeah great product of the year thank god for B&h and sears return policy will not try again. Here we go with another psychologically based camera fault. I've no idea why people think the 717 is any different to the 707. I had three different 717's and they all operated correctly, as I expected and the same as a 707 (which I also had for comparison).

Here is an outdoor shot. Now I was doing a quick stitch to see what it would look like. It is not a completed photo. It has been run through a free stitcher so it is not the greatest. You can see the seams.

But I did not edit the colors at all. This is the colors that I am getting and yes my skies look like that. I am getting much better colors with my 717 than I did with my 707. If you want richer colors, saturate them. At least we now have the option to boost color and not lose detail.

It spent 5 days in transit soaking and still took WONDERFUL test shots. If mine went through this and took sharp, well-focused shots, then there's a good chance yours will too.

It's way too easy to blame a product when it has to be used differently than you want it too. Time will tell whether these "problems" really are such. Until then, try yours out and use it. If it works for you, who cares what others say? BTW, my replacement should be in tomorrow as well.

Phil, have you done any laser assisted focus testing? I am seeing a problem (and so have others) where the focus is hit or miss. I did a test moving the camera/tripod further and further back from an object that was easy to focus on. By around 5' it started messing up. Some distances were good, others were not. I was unable to complete a full pass of tests. I will post a foot by foot sequence of shots with mine tonight (I want real condition of dim light. I believe absolute black will allow too much contrast of the laser and will be hiding a problem in true naturally occuring situations). I know your publication is not meant to really pinpoint problems (hard to get advertisement dollars if you bash their equipment). Also, got any spare 1Ds laying around

First of all I haven't heard of 10 different people with the type problems you describe. Secondly you seem to have moved from trying to find out what your problem might be to using multiple threads to try and convince everyone else that the 717 is a disaster(your word). I suggest you take it back and get something else. Why be unhappy, and more importantly why try and tell everyone else they should be unhappy as well.

I spent a year at Best Buy as a PC technician. Whether going online or getting it from a local store, it all goes through the same abuse. I almost cried when I saw them unload the truck for the first time. Not because of what I saw, but because all the big guys were tossing printers AT me. I dodged of course, so they hit the wall instead...

The worst though, was getting a 36 inch TV dropped on my back. THAT sucked. But only the top one from the stack hit me, the rest just plumeted around me. Since working there I have gotten accustomed to the fact that NO ONE gives a rat's behind about anything that isn't their's and that anything you buy you should be prepared to exchange or return.

Your not using a quality assurance testing stance on this. Just like a programmer never finds a bug in their own code because it operates "exactly how they expect it". When you pay for something, you want it to work correctly. I didn't get mine for free, if it was I wouldn't be so critical about it either.

Are you forgetting that you completly missed the DLS problem with the 707 in your review on this camera?

I for one purchased the 707 in the strength of that review and ended up having to send the camera back to have the necessary fixes applied.

I don't understand, look, DLS crept up as a problem well after the camera was introduced. It couldn't possibly have been included in the review, because at the time it was not a problem.

Try using the analytical skills we all have been trained to use and not just jump to conclusions that cannot be backed up by facts.
