FZ50 Seagulls, ducks and a bonus

HI Heather, nice set of birdies . Looks cold alright. Every time I see yours it reminds me to process a couple of my pics of these duckies I took last summer.

BTW, my favorite is the close-up of #5, -- there is a heart shape on the white feathers.
cheers

Great series Heather.....beautiful birds, some great reflections, and the close-ups on that last guy are all wonderful! :)

...I have been trying to get a picture of a Buzzard for a couple of years...
I wonder why the people in the US use the name Buzzard in a derogatory manner, like for Vultures and the "bad guys" in old western cowboy movies?

Wikipedia says that in Europe Buzzard means Raptor.
So there IS something that Americans are doing wrong!
I finally nailed a difference! LOL

And, Heather, you nailed great angles and reflections.

I do have a suggestion for you and all posters with more than 3 photos:

PLEASE place the sequence number above every link.

It would eliminate a lot of: "Hmmm, she likes number 5, but which one was # 5?"

So we spend time flicking back and forth, and/or bringing up a duplicate thread of dpreview so we can count.

Are you sure that the Duck in # 6 is not related to the Raptor in # 9?
Their feathers are almost identical!

I've heard of wearing your heart on your sleeve, but your majestic Buzzard wears little hearts all over his front?

Similar feathers?

Tough guy, misleading you with his hearts? (This has nothing to do with the macho man, does it?)

Thanks for sharing this enjoyable essay,

I like what happens when you go down to the sea. Love the reflection in that first one.

Excellent series, Heather. That buzzard is incredible - what detail! And such a regal looking bird. I can see why you have wanted to capture one. Was this with a tcon? Trevor was saying that he uses the tcon at 5MP for the extra reach. How did you get so close to this guy?
Take care,
Daniel

Ric - I started my response before your posting. I went over to the TV and watched a US Pro-Football playoff for awhile, then later how to read minds by 60 Minutes.

I also noticed the hearts on the Buzzard which you mentioned, and I picked # 5 because it is in the middle of nine. I used "she" in my example because I am somewhat (!) partial to the ladies. Please forgive me if you think I was copying your remarks.

Oh, wait a minute - you were referring to # 5, not 7, 8 and 9! I don't know if your 5 is a typo or not, but I am not able to see a heart on white feathers.

He looks absolutely frozen. Is the third one a Glaucous Gull, I took
a picture of his cousin in Porto about a year ago (my bird knowledge
fits on the back of a postage stamp).
