The L-1 seems to be a well designed camera with a great lens. I, too, would be very interested in this solution. I'm afraid, however, that due to the Leica glass and the innovations designed into this camera, it will sell in the $3,000.00 (US) range. I've read that the lens alone may be about $2,000.
Pure speculation on my part but this surely will not be an entry level camera.

Equipment in profile.

If you can visualize it, then create it in the camera, finish it off with the print that matches your mind's eye then you are, most likely, a master...

Bill if this is true i am really upset, i know lleica are exspensive but im praying you are wrong i only have limited funds we will have to wait and see regards Alan.

I like the magnesium alloy body and the controls.

As a 30 year Leica M and R nut, I won't be able to resist the lens, although I must admit the minolta and sigma made Leica zooms of the past were disappointing. Dtill Leica products gave me so much pleasure in the past, that I will be happy to support them in their new venture.

Figure out how much the existing Lumix/Leica costs and add premium for SLR benefits etc.

Just a guess, but i'm thinking the body will be significantly (25%?)more expensive than the E-330. It would make no sense for Olympus and Panasonic to introduce two bodies that would compete directly with one another.

With the Zuiko Digital 14-54 priced at approx $500 I would guess the Leica lens with OIS would be double that. At least. I hope I'm surprised and it's cheaper than that, because i'd love to get this lens for my E-300.

I hope you wrong but logic would say that it will be expensive must try to hold onto my cash i think i need every penny for this little gem.

It will probably debut at 2G or maybe higher, but when it gets older it will drop dramatically. The E-1 with the 14-54 originally debute at $1500, I believe.

Constructive criticism always welcome!

Thanks Theresa, wise words of wisdom i wanted to buy a E-1 in the mean time but looks like i will need every penny for the new camera. sorry i need a lie down its all to much for me darling pour me a whiskey please.

It will take six months or more to get that Panny into the marketplace, then give it a year and a half for the price to drop. By then, you will be interested in new bodies.

There is no way the lens will be $2k - Leicas 50 1.4 Aspherical M lens is a little over $2k - this new lesn is a 2.8, so it will be a budget lens. In Leica lenses, 2.8 is slow, lus I wouldnt be surprised if Panny made this lens using Leicas specs and rebadged it with the Leica name as they do with their video cams and the LC1, Digilux 2.

My guess for price of body and lens will be $1699.

Yes that makes sense to me, you sound just like my darling wife thanks regards Alan.

I should note that the price range I quoted in some other messages seemed to be mostly speculation on the part of the Japanese article writer. One thing that is encouraging is that the lens will be made in Japan, at the Fukushima Factory, not in Germany (sorry to diehard Leica fans). That should help reduce the price somewhat--but perhaps the original article author already knew that was taking that into consideration. . .dunno, just have to "Ooh8 and C."

That sounds promising Hokuto, you have given some light at the end of the tunnel.

Are you sure that the viewfinder is not optical? I can't find anything about it in the releases so far.

There are some specs on lets go digital's site....optical viewfinder is indicated....

The little window appears to be a self timer LED or external AF illuminator...not an optical viewfinder 'window' as per compact digicams. This is an SLR....viewing is through the lens - optically - judging by the specs available....
