List your cool accessories....

I like to bring my laptop on car trips for all the obvious reasons - including photo storage & viewing. So, I have need for "A/C power".

1) I have a Jensen inverter - that supplies 300w of A/C from the car battery. (My laptop needs 90w.) The inverter has two standard A/C outlets, so I can use it for other items as well. Cost me about USD60, IIRC.

2) I have a Garmin setup (GPS-18) that converts my laptop to a fullblown GPS system. It give me full screen info (I/O the usual dinky 2"x3" screen.) This system does all the usual GPS stuff, including talking to me as I drive making sure I'm on th' correct route. It also tells me where conveniences (gas stations, restaurants, motels, scenic places, etc.) are located. Cost is about USD130.

(I currently have about 600 tunes stored on the laptop. It makes a neat traveling stereo.)

I made a "platfrom" that sticks out of the glove box and supports the laptop at the correct height and angle for the driver. The inverter lives in a homemade box that resides between the front seats.

Best . . . .

I just bought one for my son for Christmas. $300 for 30G of memory, rechargeable batteries and VERY small. Works on both photo and music files. I think he may find it gets 'borrowed' on trips!

. . . . I didn't. IPOD's are neat, but, would only serve part of my needs. I have a small am/fm radio that fits into my shirt pocket and plugs into my head. I find that when I'm out and about walking and shooting, it distracts me. (itsa male thing, I guess !)

BTW . .. . neat thread !!!

My favorite accessories right now are are guitar picks... Oh, for photo is probably "Da Protector" on my E-1 screen. I purchased 2 about 9 months ago. Number 1 still going strong (I clean with nearest shirt tail). Quality product. Second best accessories are the OM adapter and 50mm f1.8 and Vivitar 55mm f2.8 macro. Sure they are lenses, but cheap enough to be considered accesories. (Most Oly accessories are twice as much as these two fantastic lenses).

Cheers, Seth

Wish list:

1. Extention tube and 1.4x
2. Vertical grip for E-1.
3. Slide rail.
5. Hitech ND Grads and ND solids.
6. B+H Kassiman Circ Pol.
7. PSPX upgrade.

it should never be used for sealing ducts, great for other things but not ducts. Some of my colleagues have worked on the problems of leaky duct systems and the associated energy costs/savings. They made the news a few years ago "Researchers prove duct tape is not for taping ducts"

Glad you have enjoyed it, I have too. Lots of great ideas.

As for the laptop, I just really wouldn't want to lug one. When I saw this IPOD, I told my husband that's what he can get me next year! (This year is already spoken for!)

or Stylus 300 as they call it across the pond. Great when I can't be bothered but still want a camera with me.

Regards, David

PS And dirt cheap £75 at present. Try Digital-Depot...

I think Olympus have overused some numbers in their model designations. I have an E-500, my wife has the µ 500, not to be confused with the C-500Z.

Here are some of my accs. for my E-300. A Ricoh flash bracket with an auto zoom flash. Behind the camera is a case with filters. The camera is on a Hakuba mini tripod/monopod. Below the camera is a Capital light meter. I got all these accs. off e-bay.

Has anyone ever done a side by side comparison? I've used a
Pringles lid a couple of times which I found to be pretty good - is
the Expo worth the mega$$$ extra?
eyespy,

if it is worth it or not depends on if you want absolutely neutral WB or not. The Expodisc will give you that - every time. A Pringles lid will also give you consistent WB every time (as long as you use the same one) but it will not be calibrated to be absolutely colour neutral.

For an agency who might mix photois from different photographers, the use of Expodiscs is surely worth it. However, for an amateur with moderate ambitions - I doubt it.

I have an Expodisc that I very rarely use, mostly because it removes all of the feeling that the colour of the incident light gives to a photo. (I don't use Pringles lids either ;-) But then I have an E-1 which is fairly good at WB.

Cheers, Jens.
