NO, he prefers Canon. I have yet to hear him state otherwise. I posted him because I believe he more in line with what many of us like to do concerning Wildlife. But he doing what any Youtuber should do, start testing his favorite against all Brands.

So maybe when and if his channel continues to do well, I hope he adds all the different Camera Brands. As opposed to so many Ytuber that really don't know anything about doing Wildlife but go to the Zoo instead. So he's hardly some clickbait yTuber but he as well as most, know how Ytube works.

I've watched quite a few of his videos and found them quite good and informative on wildlife photography, mostly birds.
From what I've seen he has mostly used Canon, but has recently bought into Sony, specifically because of the Sony 200-600.
Worth checking out if you are into wildlife photography, irrespective of the brand you are using.

Well, in this brand war world I am now a Canon (DSLR) and Sony (recently into mirrorless) user. You guys can discuss camera models as much as you want, but for me it was the lens selection and mount policy that lead me to Sony. I love my Canon, but I am pretty sure I will enjoy the Sony camera just as much when I get used to the smaller form factor. This smaller camera already feels good in my hands, though, so I don't quite believe in the internet "ergonomics myth". That said, I will keep my Canon camera and lenses. 😉

So who do you think most folks will believe: Jordan's youtube video with thousands of views or just someone name rubberdials... the answer is obvious.

30ms and 18ms readout for 4K60 are both impossible given that a 60th of a second (the maximum readout time to be able to achieve 60fps in the first place) is ~16.67ms.

Skipping to the conclusion this useful video weighs-up the pros and the cons on various new cameras. Some people (apparently not everybody) appreciate this commentary; like me. Cameras today complex and expensive so any critique most welcome. Too many other YOUTUBE videos on cameras which never get to the point in most cases; or avoiding being controversial.

I also would like to come back to written text. You can search for information and I spend more time on reading a good article than a video. Even if the videos of dpreview are excellent.

I have no problem with the existence of video reviews, as long as their existence doesn't reduce the fullness and quality of written content. DPR's video reviews are of good quality and offer an alternative perspective which I find useful. Unfortunately, I do find that the written reviews quite insubstantial these days, but I couldn't say that this is in any way due to the existence of the video reviews. I think it is more likely just a decision to keep the reviews 'lighter' and more mass market. There's no inherent reason why the two formats can't compliment each other.

Dpreview has to have a youtube video present. Back in the early youtube photography review days, I remembered seeing Chris and Jordan on the camera store youtube channel (Canadian). I think they were camera salesmen for the store and made videos for them too. I guess dpreview needed a youtube present and signed these 2 up. I mean, they could have gotten digitalrev's Kai and Lok, who left that channel and did their own stuff. KAi may have too much personality and sarcasm, but he was funny. Lok the guy behind the camera recording, well his English is hard to understand.. As for Fro, he would ask amazon for a personal gym and staffs to sign on.

Several editors (eg. Barney, Carey, Jeff) left DPR during the last 1-2 years. I'm not sure if they've been replaced yet. Seems like Richard Butler is doing most of the written reviews now.

Also 6D/6Dmk2/RP - worst DR on the market. Also as mentioned in other comments here el shutter with R6/R6II has big DR penalty. Which is also affecting R5 and R3!
Also R6 was mentioned like 35mm camera with one of the worst DR in video if not the worst.

I do not need to watch any video to be able to know how much some el shutter is usable! And here we are commenting on what OP said, not just general Canon vs Sony non-sense!
People are also using instax, this does not matter and do not change Canon sensors are slow and with bad DR in ES mode, which also affects video!

For Canon that's not the case, especially since the R6 II reads out only 12bit in ES mode. Due to that the dynamic range is about on par with a M43 camera at base ISO

The problem was solved for A9 before some years. Since then Sony sensors are good. But Canon is just starting with fast ES, stacked and etc. So you Cannon guys need to support them for 1-2-3 gens more to get that sorted out.

Seems likely that manufacturers could give users the choice of two variants of ES - fast with lowered bit depth and low rolling shutter, and slow with full bit depth and strong rolling shutter. Most seem to offer the former only - maybe they should think about offering both as an option?

It's 14 bit vs 12 bit, 2 bits = 2 stops, which depending on subject you may, or may not, care about...

And that's only if the sensor can actually fill out 14-bit in the first place, which very few come close to doing. Especially high MP cameras that are closer to APS-C quality at full bit depth.

If you watch the rest of the review in context, Chris remarks that in many use cases the 40 fps electronic shutter mode is very usable and any loss in DR is not important.

Context matters...and the bottom line is that for a camera of this price class the 40 fps is amazing. And one has to compare to stacked sensor cameras costing a lot more to get any improvement.

So sure the problem was solved by Sony with the stacked sensor which is used in cameras costing far more. And of course now Canon has their stacked sensor camera, the EOS R3.

But for a non stacked sensor, the read speed of the Canon exceeds the competition by a wide margin. In this case they have achieved even what Sony has not.

Check DPR's DR test. DR is as bad as m4/3. Canon sacrificed image quality in exchange for speed. Sony seems unwilling to go that far, prioritizing creating the best IQ available.

There are lots of cameras that have to drop to 12-bit mode to deliver high speed (most cameras drop to 12-bit for their video modes).

Stacked CMOS sensors (which are expensive) can deliver 14-bit readout and decently high speed, but it's absolutely not a question of one brand not being willing to make the necessary compromises.

This is absolutely not true! Just Sony and competition focused on stacked vs Canon milking FSI till the end. You compare Sony more than 5 years old 24Mpix, BSI sensor to latest gen Canon FSI. Sony just do not invest in FSI anymore. They do not even develop too much BSI only, as they can produce and sell more expensive and better stacked.
If one is happy with 1-2 stop DR/Noise penalty at base ISO, why not just go to stacked APS-C or MFT? Ok you could have tons of Canon lenses, cool get your place for newest carburetor engine while all other are doing multi point injection. yes multi point is more expensive.

PAntunes i probably do not want old kit lenses but a LOT of EF lenses are still very good to day my EF80-200F2,8L is vey good its was not until the latest EF70-200mkii that ther was a sharper xx-200F2.8 and i like my EF100F2, i pay 190GBP for a minter,, the 135F2L is on my shopping list and an excellent lens, that is all from the 1990s..my 35F2is is as good as the RF35 then there are all the VERY good sigma ART primes, i wuld put the sigma EF fit ART 20mmF1.4 up against any 20 ish mm lens today all the L glass from the last 10 or 15 years still very good.. with an R body and an EF adapter you are not going to be stuck

Any adapted lens will exhibit a tilted image to a more or lesser degree. No lens is perfect and if the image decentering overlaps with the adapter tilt, the distortion of the image will be even bigger. I personally have NO interest in purchasing any glass which is not native to that mount!

why would a canon adaptor tilt the lens ...if that is a thing then folk would be complaining about tilted lenses with the canon 1.4 and 2X extenders ...i have not heard anyone that doesn't say EF glass works better on R mount body than that did on DSLRS
if you did have a cheap adaptor that was not flat it would not distort anything, you would have a very slight focus shift on 1 side

i have used dozens and dozens of adopters with my manual focus lens collection on sony, Fuji. and canon M and EF and RF and EF on RF over the last 10 yeras and never had a problem with the results

If you haven't thoroughly checked, this doesn't mean adaptors are not aggravating optics misalignments.
I oned many adaptors including an expensive speed booster and for critical work, the optical quality of adapted lenses (especially fast ones) is lacking.

You are free to adapt whatever you want, as we are to request access to good and affordable third-party lenses.

My message to Canon is very simple, NO third-party support = NO buy!

Well well well, some salty sony users here. After commenting for years on lens releases of Sigma and Tamron "why no E mount" they go now all out about it. PredatorsPrey, not all sony lenses can do the full speed that some of the cameras allow either. So what you call artificially limiting third party equipment may not be artificial at all, but a precaution so the camera doesn't break the lenses or have inconsistent results.

And that's totally different from canon forcing two companies that were selling RF lenses with AF to stop selling those.

The question here isn't if third party manufacturers want to sell lenses in RF mount, but if canon lets them.

As I said before, sigma had E-mount lenses 2 years after a brand new mount with virtually no users was introduced. So where are those sigma lenses for RF?

And those lenses that were released for canon and not sony were all for DSLR, not mirrorless...

vadims sony also blocks some of their own lenses to 15fps, not only third party lenses.

And even with sony lenses, some of the cheaper lenses can shoot faster than the more expensive lenses, like the 85 1.8 shooting 30fps while the 85 1.4 can only go up to 20fps.

That's why I'm not that sure it's only a third party thing.

PredatorsPrey, sony can do a list with the lenses they know can achieve specific speeds. And they know that because they've build those lenses.

With third party lenses, that's different.

Some of sigma and tamron can probably shoot those speeds, but others probably can't, will be inconsistent with aperture, or will break way sooner as they were not designed to do those speeds. Who's gonna test that?

If all sony lenses were able to do the full 30fps and third party lenses were limited, sure, it was an artificial limit to sell sony lenses. But when even sony lenses are limited as well, I'm not sure it's just that simple.

so no, they didn't "refilm" it because they intended to cover it up in post with the cutaway, but blew the edit... there were probably a number of focus drift shots that had to be covered with cutaways, it's an understandable mistake.

Milcman, if the R6 can keep focus doing 40fps in RAW, I'm sure it can keep focus at 30fps doing 8mp images. You could simply send clean HDMI to a Ninja and record on that. Your argument is busted. Its obvious that Sony is now firmly in 2nd place in that price range.

Milcman, what don't you understand about a Ninja? It doesn't 'fix' AF issues, it simply records the HDMI out. I've seen countless youtube videos of the R6mkii with overlays where the AF hasn't missed a beat. All these were recorded on a Ninja, if there was an issue it would be reflected in the footage.

Data wise, A is much heavier. If the R6mkii can walk A, B is no problem.

A7IV for stills, S5II for hybrid shooters. Both cheaper and more interesting.

How much less money when you consider the cost of lenses? Even lowly L-mount Sigmas are more expensive than RF primes which are great even the nifty 50.

For me, 24mp is enough. For others, there will be the R5. Think of this as « the standard pixel camera ». Twenty-four is already quite a lot.

My "lens ecosystem" is already full of Canon lenses. No argument for me... And I'll keep my EF lenses because I still use film, too. No RF lens will arrive my pocket, I guess, even if I would get a R5 or R6m2.

Its a feature also available in all new generation Fujifilm cameras. And as its also on the newer Sony body's it seems nothing special these days. Most likely we will see this with every new camera release added.

@panther I don’t think its overselling it a bit, the A7III was called a baby A9 with much lower specs compared to the r6ii/r3.

I also worked 2 years with the R5 and almost exclusively used it in electronic shutter mode. Shooting American football, soccer, hockey etc all in electronic shutter, the only time the rolling became too apparent was panning rapidly at 4-500mm. So yes it’s useable in many, many situations more than it’s not.

Hell, you can see in that very video how it worked amazingly well while panning on someone’s running!

So tell me, as someone who apparently has a very strong opinion on what it can and can’t do, did you ever used the R6/5 professionally everyday for a few years?

I never agreed with calling the R III Baby A9 it wasn't .

Any camera where the electronic shutter mode isn't a set it and forget it thing doesn't qualify in my opinion. Also while the R5 loses some DR in ES mode it is not as bad as the R6 ii. The R6 ii has less Dr in es mode than a M43 camera

Who cares about DR in sports? I never talked about the A7RIII either.

The a7iii was the most overhyped camera in recent memory. It was never a baby a9, and I would say, the largest advantage of stacked sensors is the no blackout, not the e shutter.

Definitely a baby R3 for me!! I just have to try out see how much FPS I could get with my EF lenses. If I can get max of 15-20 fps. I'll be ecstatic. Overall, I'm really impressed with the ES shots of tennis which I love and photograph. Will definitely get the vertical grip and fast SD UHS-II card(s). Can't wait to shoot with my 50L/1.2 and 85/1.2 LII with it for portraiture too! Just waiting for Sony to come out with the A6600 upgrade then I will decide if I go with the R6MKII.

Panther fan: No camera maker will ever take down Sony from the throne of asterisks. I generally feel Canon is very honest with their numbers.

@NikonNikoff Meh, they all use asterixes. My Z6 is a "12 fps" camera in name only. The slide show in the EVF is so useless at that frame rate that the most you can realistically use it at is 5.5 fps burst rate mode.

1. Let me make it clear that I think the Canon R6 II is the best non-stacked sports camera on the market. I do not think any non-stacked Sony is better. And new you cannot get any cheaper stacked FF camera.
It is just that stacked sensor cameras still play in a different league.

@Name That Camera, Not sure what you mean by close lens mount, Pana, different to Canon, has many brands producing lenses for them. You have Pana, Sigma, Leica and a bunch of those Chinese brands. Doesn't look like a close mount. Only brand not doing lenses for l mount is tamron. Also canon lens offering is way more $$$, (yes you do have some cheaper lenses, but nothing really good, the expensive ones are amazing), you get more for less with Pana.

If you are only into photography and can afford the lenses i would go for the canon, if you need a hybrid the pana is the way to go, and if you are into photo and cant afford canon lenses, (only the cheap ones) I would also go for the pana.

The usual Name That Camera mantra about Panasonic quilting based on nothing.

For video I would pay extra $300 for R6II with no regret.

But I would wait for Z6III first to compare it with R6II.

fuji camera and olympus cameras they are not full frame i know but it looks like the canon c- hammer hit in e/s so no gain in dr in that regard probably better off with aps-c or m43 if that is your goal pre capture and high fps ,still a competitive camera and no one else is offering 12fps mechanical c-af.guess you can not have your cake and eat it ,but again it is only leapfrogging what happens with nikon z6 mk3 more leap frogging.
