Fujifilm'x X-E3 comes with a whole host of refinements and upgrades both inside and out. A new touchscreen drives the user experience, and with an updated sensor and processor comes 4K video capture. Take a peek at what these upgrades look like in action.
I have an X-E1 and was looking forward to an upgrade in the X-E3 (the X-E1 is slow). But I am disappointed. The main issue for me is the fixed rear screen; it needs to flip around like the Canon G7X for vlogging etc. Why improve the video capability if it cannot be fully utilised?
Like the X-E1, the X-E3 is compact. This was one of the main reasons for going with X-E1 at the time instead of a Canon D6. I did have a Canon EOS30 film. It was laborious carting it around.
The loss of the builtin flash is not a problem for me because I never used it a lot. I thought it was never that successful as a fill-in flash on the X-E1 (maybe it was just me)
As others have said, the X-E3 should have been called the X-E30. I agree.
Still, Fujifilm cameras have amazing colour rendition and image quality (and film simulations - keep up the good work on this Fujifilm).
In the end, it is image quality that matters in a compact form and that is why I may still consider an upgrade to the X-E3 :|
seems like Fuji did the right thing by themselves with this model. The XE-1-2 were in someways preferable or at least more comparable to the flagship models of their time. This would have cannibalised sales no doubt. The "X" brand is now quiet established. The XE3 design is far more consumer orientated to protect the sales of flagship models. I imagine the x-pro2 xt-2 will hold slightly better value as a result as they are a clearly different line of camera. Fuji want its previous xe1-2 users to take a serious look at the x pro2 xt2. The point of entry level cameras is to snag sales as the photographer develop. Same as the design of the xe3 will bring new users to the system due to its size and consumer orientation
If this had a tilting screen, I would be selling my GX85 and PL 15 f1.7. The original EOS M was a great camera for what it was, but the lack of a tilting screen (or evf) was a HUGE limitation. I really want an APS-C sensored camera that's small, shoots 4k, and has a reasonable price. so so so close...
Perfect update for my X-E2, i don't miss the pop-up flash as i use mostly off-camera flash, the AF joystick and the touch panel will help to forget the loss of the D-Pad.
The only real omission is the lack of the tilting screen.... Then it would be about an ideal modern compact mirrorless solution. The attachable flash has a major advantage over built in in getting the flash further off axis to avoid red eye and lens shading. Besides flash is used so little today with high iso capability for general shooting.
Fuji is obviously paying very close attention to their rivals. The add-on flash is an improvement over the Panasonic and Olympus solutions, the touchscreen interface is reminiscent of the Leica TL, and the prime kit is a total throwback :) It looks like a good update to the X-E2. Shame about the X-Trans BS and lack of tilting screen, though.
