The Nikon Z6, paired with the new Nikkor Z 50mm F1.8S produces the sort of result you'd expect from a baby Z7. The lens is consistent across the frame and the sensor looks good but, like the Z7, the PDAF stripes aren't perfectly corrected so can occasionally become visible.

To dismiss the Huawei P9's imager as 'just another smartphone camera' would be unfair. Huawei claims that by using one monochrome and one RGB sensor, the camera is 100% more sensitive to light than its competitors. We found it to be enjoyably similar to shooting with a dedicated camera, but at the end of the day, it's still a smartphone. Read more

When the Nikon D5 arrived in our office on Friday we immediately wanted to answer a few questions: How is the low light performance? How good is the autofocus? How is the Raw dynamic range? We've found that while the D5's sensor is clearly optimised for low-light image making, it represents a rather surprising - and disappointing - step backwards in terms of base ISO dynamic range. The Ricoh GR II is a modest update to the well-regarded GR, and the high-quality formula remains: an 18.3mm (28mm equiv.) F2.8 lens in a compact body with a 16MP APS-C sensor inside. While the update doesn't bring image quality changes, it does offer a chance to run the new camera through our studio test scene, as it will be an obvious competitor to the Fujifilm X70 when it arrives. The sensor in the Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246) is an interesting one. Without a color filter array, the 24MP CMOS sensor doesn't lose sharpness through interpolation, much like a Merrill-generation Foveon sensor or Pentax's pixel shift mode found in the K-3 II. The catch is, of course, no color. Is the extra sharpness worth the cost? Read more
