Electronics giant Samsung has announced it will introduce a 2TB USB memory device that is ‘smaller than an average business card’. The Samsung Portable SSD T3 will measure 74x58x10.5mm/2.91x2.28x0.41in and will weigh 51g/1.79oz when it comes to market in February. The company claims that the device will offer read and write speeds of up to 450MB/s via its USB 3.1 Type C interface, and with AES 256-bit hardware encryption and password protection it will not be readable should it be lost or stolen. A story on video blog EOSHD claims that Samsung has discontinued its NX1 mirrorless camera across Europe. An email that one of the site's forum users claims to be from Samsung states that 'in Europe, we will be discontinuing sales of NX1 cameras for now since there is already much better and upgraded cameras'. Samsung has been pretty inventive in the digital camera world. It was the first to offer an really extensive Wi-Fi system (which continues to this day), Android-based cameras (though Nikon launched a model at about the same time), and arguably the first dedicated 'selfie cams' with its DualView models.
The Samsung NX500 takes some of the best bits of the NX1, including the same 28MP APS-C format sensor and still imaging pipeline, and wraps them up in a smaller, less expensive body. We recently had the opportunity to shoot with an NX500 on the beautiful island of Hawaii. UPDATED: We just added several images to this gallery, converted from raw. The Samsung NX500 is essentially a scaled down version of Samsung's flagship NX1. It uses the same 28MP BSI-CMOS sensor, advanced hybrid AF system, and a version of the same DRIMe V processor. The main differences are the form factor (resembling a rangefinder rather than an SLR), burst mode (9 vs 15 fps), and viewfinder (none vs electronic). We've been using a production NX500 for a couple of days, and we've put together a gallery of real-world samples. Click through for the updated gallery
