Sony recently updated its FE line, which now offers 16 full-frame lenses for Sony's E-mount Alpha cameras. Among the new lens introductions is the FE 50mm F1.8, what you might call Sony's 'nifty fifty'. We spent some time shooting with it in San Francisco this weekend, paired with the unforgiving 42MP of the Alpha 7R II, and have put together a gallery and some first impressions. Read more
From Long Beach, WA to San Francisco, CA, we've made a couple of recent trips with the Sony FE 24-70 F2.8 GM in tow. With a variety of focal lengths, apertures and lighting situations, take a look and see how this workhorse G Master lens holds up. Read more
Among all its releases at CP+ 2016, Sigma's 30mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens is the smallest in size, but its wide aperture should help it pack an image quality punch. We were fortunate enough to have a chance to try out a pre-production model outside Sigma's factory in snowy Aizu, Japan. Click through to see how it did. Read more
Canon's new EF 35mm F1.4L USM II lens has some pretty big shoes to fill. Its older brother, now on the market for 17 years, has become both a benchmark and a staple of many a pro Canon shooter's kit. We've had the Mark II version for a few days, and we've spent that time shooting some environmental portraits, landscapes and lots more in between. Read more
The EF 50mm F1.8 STM is Canon's newest iteration of its classic 'nifty fifty' lens. It's a fast, inexpensive normal lens on a full frame DSLR, but also functions as an 80mm equivalent lens on Canon's APS-C bodies. How does it perform in real-world use? We've been using the lens for a few days and put together a gallery of samples. We took quite a few shots at wide apertures to see how the lens performed, but have also included photos taken at smaller apertures. See photos
[UPDATED] We were curious to see how the new Canon 11-24 F4 performed on a high resolution sensor, so we've updated our gallery with some landscapes and aperture progressions taken on a 36MP Sony a7R with a Metabones adapter. Though performance at extremes of the frame may not be representative of that on a native body, the 11-24 doesn't disappoint. Have a look at the new shots in our gallery
The Panasonic Lumix GH4's headline features revolve around its 4K video capture capability, but it's still a very attractive stills camera. It offers a newly developed 16-megapixel Live MOS sensor, 12 fps burst shooting (7 fps with continuous focus) and up to ISO 25600 sensitivity. A built-in 2.36-million dot EVF and a fully articulated LCD are also provided. Take a look at our gallery of real-world samples and see how it performs in the field. See gallery
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 (TZ60 outside of North America) is a compact travel zoom camera with a 30X, 24-720mm equiv. lens and 18.1 megapixel 'high sensitivity' MOS sensor. The ZS40 features both a 3-inch (920k dot) LCD as well as an electronic viewfinder (200k dot). The camera has full manual controls, Raw support, focus peaking, plus a control ring. We've been out shooting with it, ahead of publishing a short review. Click through below to take a look at our real-world samples.
Samsung's NX Mini is the slimmest and lightest interchangeable lens camera on the market. It packs a 1"-type, 20MP CMOS sensor into its body, along with Wi-Fi with NFC and 1080/30p video. With the NX Mini, Samsung also introduced a new NX-M lens mount. We've been shooting with the 9mm F3.5 (24.3mm equivalent) prime on the camera and having some fun with the Mini's flip up LCD for the occasional 'selfie'. See gallery
The Fujifilm TCL-X100 is a screw-in teleconverter for the X100 and X100S which increases the effective focal length of their 23mm F2 lens to 50mm. We've been shooting with the TCL-X100 for a few days now, in a range of different situations and light levels to see how it performs in everyday use. Click through to read our first impressions, and see our sample images.
We've been shooting with the Fujinon XF 56mm F1.2 R - the fast 85mm equivalent prime lens for Fujifilm's X mount mirrorless cameras. Its F1.2 aperture means it gives similarly shallow depth-of-field to an 85mm F1.8 lens on a full frame body, making it an useful portrait or low light lens. We also spent time using the X-E2 with an advance version of firmware v2.0 while putting this gallery together. See gallery and read about our experience with the update
The Coolpix P340 is Nikon's latest pocket enthusiast camera, featuring a large 1/1.7", 12.2-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, full manual controls (P, S, A, M) and Raw image capture. The P340 has a versatile 5x (24-120mm equivalent) wide-angle to telephoto zoom range plus 10x Dynamic Fine Zoom and a fast F1.8 maximum aperture lens with Lens Shift VR image stabilization. We've spent a few days shooting with it to see if these specs add up to impressive performance. See gallery
The Olympus Stylus SH-1 brings the manufacturer's well-regarded 5-axis image stabilization to a fixed lens compact for the first time. The SH-1 looks the part too with its Pen-inspired styling, and offers a substantial 25-600mm equivalent zoom. Who could resist taking it for a spin? That's exactly what we did, and we've come back with a gallery of real-world samples to prove it. See photos
The 50mm F1.4 DG HSM is Sigma's latest fast normal prime for full-frame cameras, and one of the most hotly-anticipated lenses of the year. But how does it perform in real-world use? We've been using the lens for a couple of days, and put together a gallery of samples. We've concentrated on large-aperture shots to show sharpness and bokeh, but have also included several taken at smaller apertures. See photos
Sigma's 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM | C is the latest version of its popular stabilized superzoom lens for APS-C / DX format SLRs. It's smaller and lighter than the previous model (the 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM from 2011), but offers an updated optical design with improved close-focusing abilities. Sigma shipped us a sample a few days ago so we could try it out and we've been running around (in typically unpredictable Seattle weather) getting some real-world samples. Click through to see the shots.
We've just returned from the CP+ show in Japan, where Fujifilm was kind enough to loan us a beta sample of its new 10-24mm zoom lens for the X-series interchangeable lens cameras. Although this is a beta (not final) sample, Fujifilm is confident enough about its performance to allow us to post images. We've prepared a gallery of sample images taken in various conditions at various ISO sensitivity settings on the X-T1 for you to take a look at. See gallery

As we work on our full review of the Nikon Df, we've been shooting with it extensively and have put together a gallery of real-world samples. We've tried to use a selection of lenses, including older Nikon glass as well as the recently-launched AF-S Nikkor 58mm f/1.4 G. Here are 40 images shot at a range of ISOs to show how the camera performs. See gallery
Just Posted: Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D studio samples and good light samples. We've just got hold of a production version of Canon's miniaturized DSLR and, as part of the process of reviewing it, have shot our standard studio scene. We've also taken it out to see how it performs away from the studio lighting and have put together a series of daylight samples. Click through to see how it fares.
Just posted: Our samples gallery shot using a production Canon EOS 100D and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM. In this gallery we're aiming to give an idea of the image quality possible from Canon's latest miniature SLR with its new, silent-focusing kit zoom. We've also quicky tested its refocusing ability during movie recording. Click through to see the sample images and movies.
Just posted: Our Canon EOS 100D (Rebel SL1) preview samples gallery. We've been lucky enough to get our hands on a pre-production sample of Canon's latest miniaturised SLR, and have assembled a quick samples gallery to give an idea of how it performs. We've shot using the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM and EF 40mm f/2.8 STM pancake lenses, and aimed to cover a variety of subjects and lighting conditions. The pre-production camera used offers 'Beta' standard image quality, so may not fully reflect the final image quality (although it's unlikely to be radically different).
We've just posted a selection of real-world samples shot with the Nikon Coolpix A. The Coolpix A offers a 16MP APS-C sensor in a genuinely compact body, mated to a 28mm equivalent F2.8 retractable lens. We've put together a 21-image gallery of images shot in a variety of situations and at a range of apertures. Click through to see how it performed.
The AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm F4 ED VR arrived in our Seattle office a few days ago and since then we've been shooting with it as much as possible. We've put together a gallery of 34 images, shot with the new lens mounted on the 36MP Nikon D800. As well as straight-from-the-camera JPEGs, we've also converted several Raw files, and have made 'to taste' adjustments to give a clearer picture of how the lens is performing. Click through for a link to the gallery.
Just Posted: Our Canon EOS M preview samples gallery. We've had a chance to shoot with the Canon EOS M, the company's first mirrorless camera, over a weekend on Santa Fe, New Mexico. Shooting exclusively with the 22mm F2 prime lens, we prepared a gallery of real-world images shot in a variety of situations and under a range of lighting conditions. In addition to camera JPEGs, we've processed a series of images at different ISO settings through the latest version of Adobe Camera Raw.
Just Posted: Full-size, real world samples from the Sony A99. We've been shooting with Sony's latest full-frame flagship camera down in San Francisco and Monterey, California as part of a Sony press trip - our first opportunity to get hold of a production-standard camera. We've put together a samples gallery taken in a variety of lighting conditions and at a range of apertures and featuring multiple subjects. Click through to see how the 24MP camera performs.
We've prepared a quick samples gallery using the Pentax K-30 - Pentax' latest mid-level DSLR with a 16.3MP CMOS sensor. We're working on a review but recently technical writer Lars Rehm had the chance to take the camera and the 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 lens on a road trip down the coast on Highway 101 and to Crater Lake in Oregon, taking a lot of pictures along the way. The review is in the pipeline, but in the meantime we hope you enjoy these pictures, which should give you a taste of what the camera can do.
