Medium format equipment manufacturer Hasselblad has announced the winners of its Masters competition, and has awarded the winners of each category a high end medium-format camera. The company does not specify which cameras will constitute the prizes, but they will be presented at a ceremony during September’s Photokina show in Germany, at which the company is speculated to be launching major new products. David Stewart's 'Five Girls' wins £12,000 Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize

A photographer who has charted the growing up of his daughter and four of her friends has won the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Award with a re-staged picture he entered into the 2008 competition. Five Girls 2014 shows the group six years on from an original image that was taken right before their GCSE school exams (11th grade). Read more

Royal Photographic Society announces medals touring exhibition for International Members' Biennial competition

The results of the Royal Photographic Society's International Member's competition have been announced after judges selected 100 images for a touring exhibition from almost 3300 entries. The competition, which is held every other year, attracted RPS members from 16 countries, and was won by UK photographer Steve Jones for his shot, Joie de Vivre, of a young and prancing Lustitano stallion on a French stud farm. See winners

Weird and wonderful: International science photography competition open for entries

Organizers of a worldwide competition for scientific photography are calling for entries for the International Images for Science competition. Photographers are encouraged to submit visually exciting and revealing pictures of objects and concepts relating to all areas of science. The competition, which is run by the Royal Photographic Society (RPS), is free to enter, and this year will be accepting work from members and non-members alike for the first time. Read more

UK Landscape Photographer of the Year winners announced

The winners of the UK’s Take a View 2014 competition have been announced. Taking the title Landscape Photographer of the Year and a £10,000 prize, photographer Mark Littlejohn beat around 20,000 entries with his picture of a temporary stream created by heavy rain tumbling down the side of a Glencoe mountain, in Scotland. See gallery

Carnivorous plant image wins Olympus BioScapes competition

The open 'mouth' of a floating humped bladderwort plant (Utricularia gibba) took first prize in Olympus' microscope image competition. Igor Siwanowicz, a researcher from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Janelia Farm Research Campus in Ashburn, Virginia, took the winning image of the carnivorous plant, beating more than 2,000 entries from 71 countries. See gallery

Award-winning wildlife photos capture candid moments

An owl in mid-flight, a polar bear peering from under icy waters, to a monkey being blasted by snow are some of the winning images from this year's Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. Elephants surrounding a watering hole in Botswana by South African photographer Greg du Toit was the overall winner. See gallery 

Olympus UK teases new 'premium compact' in photo competition launch

Olympus UK has teamed up with exhibtr.com to launch a competition for student photographers, and in the process teased an upcoming 'premium compact' as one of the prizes. The Student Photography Competition 2013/14 has a theme of 'People & Portraits', and the overall winner will receive an OM-D E-M5 12-50mm lens kit, while two runners-up will receive the soon-to-be-announced camera. UK-based photographers will be able to get an 'exclusive preview' of the new model at London's Covent Garden from November 2nd to 9th. Click through for more details.
