great camera, I think. For people around it will looks like pocket camera, photographer will looks like amateur, can do photography anywhere, but in fact there is a camera with full frame sensor and professional grade lens. Something like Cartie-Bresson's dream - small, lightweight, 45mm standard eye-angle lens, black color, great image quality, good high ISO images... And not too expensive in compare with Sony R1. And in addition its a system camera, in fact, we can change the lenses. Hope soon we will see few very small size fix lenses for L-mount...

Wow. The first sample gallery on dpreview without "edited to taste" corrections. Kudos Sigma for having incorporated dynamic range and tonality into OOC processing!

I was thinking that the colors have a odd retro look to them, but then I looked out the window (I'm in Seattle), and they are remarkably accurate. Perhaps the reds are a little subdued, but that is hard to assess in shadows. Nice work. I could like one of these.

ALL full frame cameras have excellent IQ today ..that is irrefutable..what you have to go by and it is not quantifiable is whether or not you like the "look" of the images a camera produces ...and 1st impressions with this cam is good ...

We need more colorful cats to assess color rendition :)

Looks like this camera was too long in development. t's video camera first and doesn't offer 4k60 at least in super 35 mode. At nearly 2 grand price that's huge let down. Sigma should just stick with lenses which they can do very well but cameras are waste of time and resources IMO.

Shame this wasn`t a 24Mp Full fat Foveon 3X24Mp layer sensor - like a 24Mp full frame DP1 Merrill with a lens mount in place of a lens .. Sod Video, everything else does that , forget standard 24Mp bayer too, everyone else does that also - IMO they should have made this a true to roots Sigma camera with a true 3X24 Foveon sensor .

Just my View of course , but anything less. may as well get a Sony or a Panasonic or a Fuji or whatever

Very nice set. That said, as megapixel race has ramped up I am understanding more and more that buying into that is totally unnecessary for a casual photographer who enjoys the process, a good image capture and sharing via social media. Following that thought, 24mp is quite enough, as is 20 and even 16 in older m43's.

looks kodak/leica-ish.. yellow (as reddish from canon and purple on sony/nikon) tint is trademark of sigma previous sensors, i guess that's why they choose this route..

Some images (well done Carey) can push almost to the limits almost any FF camera and this little fp guy seems it can cope well having nothing to be jealous of comparing to other FF implementations.
This fp, though it's a clever solution for small video studios basically aimed at production of mainstream publicity (vloggers included) offers great versatility to shot video in practically every field.
It's also a more than capable tool for photography which in most cases outperforms IQ quality of FF implementations sporting similar pixel count sensors.
A smart and cost effective proposal from Sigma from every aspect.

How are the RAWs converted? Is there an Adobe profile for this camera/sensor? Or did you use Sigma provided software?

Given the controverse over colours and sharpness, I think Sigma is on to something. It is good to have people who love and who dislike a camera, because it sets you apart from the mass market. I'm in the 'I like the look of this camera a lot, but in some images there is something weird with the red channel going on' camp.

Hopefully, they will release a camera with a new Foveon sensor. With all its limitations, the look you get from a Foveon sensor is distinct. And I've seen great examples. The downside is the crappy software you need to convert the RAWs.

Is it smaller than a Rollei 35s?

It's better for Sigma to focus on lenses. Somehow they never got anything good from trying making cameras.

The only real downside I can see is the fixed screen. Long ago have past the times, when I was able to lay on the ground for a shot...

This camera begs for a good quality pancake lens.
Would be a cool compact tool then.

Modular camera systems are a neat concept that rarely if ever works in practice. Partly because everything ends up more expensive, and partly because any single configuration compares poorly with camera model designed specifically for that use.

If you want a small camera, better to buy a small camera. If you want a video rig, better to buy a video rig. The appeal of a little box-like camera module that transforms into a video rig begins and ends at "that's a cool idea".

Actually, the world's smallest full frame camera is the Sony Rx1r.

Sigma will need to develop a nice line of pancake primes if they want this camera to have any chance at success. I think there's a market for that if they do it right, but as things stand, it's kind of pointless to have a camera body this compact when most of the lens lineup is as bulky as it is.

A shame someone isn't aware of anatomy & have the skeleton arms on the wrong side in the last photo. ;-)

Why do you need an evf? I stopped using it once I started using large format cameras. I find it much easier to compose looking at a LCD screen.

Does Sigma make any compact lenses for this camera?

Sigma is a peculiar brand in regards to camera design/development. Their history is to bring unusual models to market, and a few years later do something completely different. I can’t get a sense of their identity or direction.

The concept of a FF body this size is intriguing, until you see the price. Not compelling.

Who is the matted and uncombed slob with a wire going through his lips? You can't be in a jazz band looking like that; you must look respectable.

Really nice hybrid cam but with strange conception - no EVF means no serious for stills, and fixed LCD = not tempting for many video shooters who do not want to use external LCD.

Unquestionably takes better cat pictures than the SL2. I'm waiting for my favorite puppy's photos to make a final verdict.

As this camera has a fully electronic shutter, I would have expected some pictures of runners, bikers, car races, rotating propellers, to get an idea of the rolling shutter impact on those pictures.

A great lens on a great little camera. I like those colors a lot, remind me of Leica M8. Notice the lack of CA in high contrast scenes wide open. The key question is whether the price is right? For a stills camera - no. I wouldn't pay more than $1200. For a video camera I guess it's worth the money.
