actually iphone pictures tend to look better and eventually computational photography will dominate in a way that my and your gear will be crap in a few years. Also, there is a serious possibility that most of the professional photographers will have no job in 10 years. That's the evolution my friend. It is going that direction.

And what makes you think that an iphone is (also) a photographic equipment? Photographic equipment is whatever produces photos. Are you a purist? If the OOC JPEGs are bad, the anwer is shoot RAW. If the RAW conversions are bad, blame it on Adobe...

I did own a Leica ( 111g) when the name of Leica meant something but in recent years they have become trophies instead of cameras.

Dies the X type shares Mondeo platform and a lot of parts? A jaguar is more upmarket with many improvements. Does the Leica here shares a lot of Panasonic tech? It is however yes a more upmarket unit

Cars and cameras, the latter in increasing numbers, share platforms, but can differ wildly in driving, handling and quality experience.

To answer your question, IF I were in the market for a FF camera, and was ok with the L-Mount “weight is great” philosophy, and budget was not much of an issue, then between this and the Panasonic my choice would be down to handling, since in my case, the less I have to think about the camera, the better my photography tends to be.

If all those conditions were met, which they are not, and based so far only on reading about both cameras, I suspect I’d buy the Leica. With Sigma lenses...

The ISO 12,800 image of the guy with the beard (#87) is a very dark exposure, that one lightens during raw extraction to show his face, hence more noise.

Both that and the ISO 16000 image (393) have banding.

Leica needs to do some firmware work. Leica solved serious banding with new firmware for the SL V1 within about 12 months of its release.

His main concern was shadow banding at ISO 12,800, which is a very reasonable complaint at this price point.

And since Leica owners often tout the supposed marginally superior performance and user experience of the overall product which justifies that price point, writing off shadow banding at higher ISO as if to say “keep moving folks, nothing to see here” is bit irritating. People need to know what they are spending their money on.

That's no surprise, the panaleica twins have been around for quite some time. I only hope we wont see a similar Sigma gallery too. Triplets would be too much.

If you drive around with those cars some people will hate you, some will envy you, some will admire you and some will think you're a fool. With the decline of popularity of dedicated cameras, smartphone toting majority of people will not even notice that you have a Lecia or what the heck it is.

ewelch - The hate is never ending and it revolts me. Now, i've never seen a Leica or a Leica owner in my life, but i feel for them. Not so much for the haters who hate them. In truth, i'm a little jealous of haters. Hate is a powerful emotion, and i can't even remember when i positively felt any powerful emotions.

Now i feel tempted to put some effort into retrieving some of those memories but i can tell you It was a long time ago. Her name was Guadalupe, the year was 1978 and the place was Guadalajara.

@Sezano - your concern is genuinely appreciated, but I wouldn’t lose sleep over it. I shoot Leica because I love the experience of using rangefinders - they’re light and they help you develop new skills, which is fun. Once you get the hang of using them, they’re great for street photography - not that other cameras aren’t good also - and the experience of using a film Leica, in particular, gives the enjoyment of using something beautifully made and timeless. I understand why other people don’t get it and I really don’t mind.

When you shot with Leicas professionally, they really did have that distinct look to the rangefinder series. Everything popped.

Today it's irrational to spend on the Leica premium if you have any sort of budget, let's even say $15K. A number of FF mirrorless bodies will do an amazing job. The money is much better spent on really expensive glass these days. I.e. Any 85mm F1.4, Canon's 28-70 f/2, Nikon's f/.95, Tamron's primes, etc, etc.

@Zubikov - it’s just a camera that costs about a quarter of the amount you’d spend on an average new car. Yes, of course that’s an extravagance, and if you’re thinking solely of IQ, yes it’s irrational. But in the grander scheme of things, especially if you’re taking photos for pleasure rather than as a job, it’s not really a big deal. Many people spend as much, if not more, on many things. Personally, I choose expensive cameras and cheap cars, because that’s what I enjoy. Call it irrational if you wish - each to their own!

The colors reminded me of my Fuji APS-C but with the green turned down a little bit. That's not at all a bad thing.

Downsized for the web, you probably can't tell a 100 percent blind test between this and a 100MP Fujifilm pic. But you could tell the difference in a big enough print. Or in a studio setting... I've been lucky enough to shoot the GFX100 a little bit, and it really is fan freakin' tastic. And even a little more expensive than the Leica. But you get what you pay for, be it the red dot or the 100MPixel raws.

I shoot GFX50s. The other day I was transferring old images. A folder with D800 images came up. Apart from resolution there was very little difference in IQ, even when pushed. And I showed as clearly as I could that the SL and GFX when normalised to the same sensor size have next to no difference between them.

Also, @Mariano Pacifico I'm hyped on my X-H1 too, so I hope you're correct and they do make an X-H2. Current model is half the resolution of this new Leica, but still.. weather sealed tank of a camera with grip, for a thousand bucks-with bonus Fuji colors-is not a bad value proposition at all!

Some time ago there was an official statement from FUJI where they were talking about sensors and their lens resolution. Pretty much anything bigger than 28mp was mentioned as an overkill.
