Sony SLT-A77 In-depth Review
Menus cont.
Play menu
The play menu has all the options you might expect but also includes the 'View Mode' option that allows you to switch between viewing stills, MP4 movies and AVCHD movies.
Memory menu
Unlike most other brands, Sony likes to write an image database file to the memory card (and the camera will sometimes ask to update this database at startup if you've used your card in another camera). All the settings relating to this, including new folder creation and folder selection are included in the 'memory' menu.

Time and date settings
We're not quite sure why the date and time settings in this menu merit an individual tab as most users will only change their camera's system time very rarely (if at all).

Sony has announced firmware updates for its SLT-A37, A57, A65, A77 and A99 digital SLRs. Firmware version 1.01 for the SLT-A99 adds Dual-AF compatibility with key A-mount lenses. Updates for the rest of the SLTs including the A99 add automatic lens correction with several A-mount lenses. Click through for more details and a link to the updates.
Sony has published details of two OLED displays, giving more detail about the electronic viewfinders used in its SLT A65, A77 and NEX-7 cameras. The displays are based on white LEDs shining through color filters, rather than direct-emitting colored LED technology, helping them to offer higher resolutions combined with 90% coverage of the NTSC color gamut. The company also claims a contrast ratio of 10,000:1 - ten times greater than that offered by its latest WhiteMagic rear LCD screens, also detailed in the company's latest semiconductor newsletter. Their appearance in the newsletter is likely to mean they are available for sale to other manufacturers, raising the prospect of other makers' cameras appearing with high-resolution OLED EVFs.
Sony has released firmware v1.03 for its SLT-A77 and A65 cameras. Currently only available via the company's Asia site (the first region in which the cameras are widely available), the upgrade promises to improve the responsiveness of the control dials and function buttons, along with the speed of switching between EVF and LCD modes. It also adds support for the HVL-MT24AM macro flash accessory.
