Below you will find a studio comparison between the Pentax Optio S5i and the similarly specified Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX7. We have included samples for the lowest and highest ISO settings for each camera (80 and 400).

*1 The Pentax S5i has a maximum exposure of 1/4 second in program mode, which resulted in a slightly underexposed image under our studio lights. These crops have been adjusted using Photoshop CS levels. The original (untouched) JPEG is available by clicking on the thumbnail image

At ISO 80 noise is well controlled, color good and there's plenty of detail being captured. Sure, the FX7 is doing better - especially at the edges - but the Optio S5i is still producing impressive results for such a small, lightweight camera.
