Panasonic DMC-GH1 vs. Nikon D5000

Camera settings:

  • Panasonic DMC-GH1: Olympus Zuiko 50mm F2.0, Aperture Priority, ISO 100
JPEG Large/Fine, Manual WB, Default Parameters (Standard), Self-Timer
  • Nikon D5000: Nikkor 50 mm F1.4G lens, Aperture Priority, ISO 200
JPEG Large/Fine, Manual WB, Default Parameters, Self-Timer
Panasonic DMC-GH1
Nikon D5000
5.9MB JPEG (4000 x 3000)
4.7 MB JPEG (4288 x 2848)

Despite the fact that the GH1 and D5000 offer almost identical nominal resolutions the Panasonic ekes visibly more detail out of its image files. However, the difference would only be visible at fairly large magnifications. Again, the color response is, apart form the Panasonic's warmer greens, very similar. All cameras in this comparison allow, of course, to tweak color parameters anyway.
