Studio scene comparison (JPEG)

This is our standard studio scene comparison shot taken from exactly the same tripod position. Lighting: daylight simulation, >98% CRI. Crops are 100%. Ambient temperature was approximately 22°C (~72°F).

Olympus E-3 vs Panasonic DMC-L10

Camera settings:

  • Olympus E-3: Olympus 50 mm F2.0 Macro lens, Aperture Priority, ISO 100
JPEG Large/HQ, Manual WB, Default Parameters (Natural), Self-Timer (with MLU)
  • Panasonic DMC-L10: Olympus 50 mm F2.0 lens, Aperture Priority, ISO 100, film mode standard,
JPEG Large/Fine, Manual WB, Mirror Lock Up, 2 sec self-timer
Olympus E-3
Panasonic DMC-L10
4.5 MB JPEG (3648 x 2736)
4.4 MB JPEG (3648 x 2736)

One last comparison, between the E-3 and the Panasonic DMC-L10, a camera we're fairly sure shares the same new LiveMOS sensor. The differences would appear to be down to processing (which would make sense; this is the same lens and we presume the same sensor). In most respects (color, detail) the E-3 wins, but it's interesting to see that the L10's JPEG engine is actually doing a better job with highlight clipping than the E-3.
