Record mode menu

All of the captures below were taken with the lens cap attached to provide a black background for clarity. Normally however you would be able to see the live preview image behind the current menu, except for those menu pages which are purple in colour.

The C-700UZ features a new style of menu system. Pressing the OK button displays four options, each of which is selected by pressing the 4-way controller in a particular direction. Three of these options (all except MODE MENU) are referred to as shortcuts and can be programmed by the user (more of this later).

Entering the MODE menu itself reveals a new design to the standard Olympus menu system, displayed over the live preview with a semitransparent background. Options are split over four separate pages which can be accessed by selecting the appropriate 'tab' on the left side.

Each of the four pages; Camera, Picture, Card and Setup are described in more detail below.

Record mode menu: Camera

Select the camera's ISO sensitivity:

 • Auto (100-200)
 • 100
 • 200
 • 400
 • 800

Select manual exposure mode when A/S/M is selected on the mode dial.

 • A(perture Priority)
 • S(hutter Priority)
 • M(anual Exposure)
Adjust the power output of the flash by +/-2 EV in 0.3 EV steps Select the Slow Sync type:

 • Slow 1 (front curtain - flash fires at beginning of exposure)
 • Slow Redeye reduction (redeye reduction flashes, then exposure and main flash)
 • Slow 2 (rear curtain - flash fires at end of exposure)

Selects bracketing options:

 • 3 or 5 images
 • 0.3, 0.6 or 1.0 EV steps

Enable / Disable digital zoom which appears as an extended area of focal length if you hold the zoom controller past maximum optical zoom.

Enable / Disable full-time auto focus. When enabled the camera auto focus all the time (obvious drain on the batteries), otherwise the camera will only auto focus at the end of focal length change or when the shutter release is half-pressed.

Enable / Disable the recording of a voice memo after each shot is taken.

Enters panorama shooting mode, only available with original Olympus SmartMedia cards. You can shoot:

 • left->right
 • right->left
 • top->bottom
 • bottom->top panoramas.

Select a picture processing option, applied to the image before it is written to the SmartMedia card:

 • Off
 • Black & White
 • Sepia
 • White Board
 • Black Board

Record mode menu: Picture

Select the output image size / quality:

 • TIFF:
       • 1600 x 1200, 1280 x 960, 1024 x 768,
         640 x 480
 • SHQ - 1600 x 1200
 • HQ - 1600 x 1200
 • SQ:
       • 1280 x 960, 1024 x 768, 640 x 480
       • High or Normal Quality

Select white balance mode:

 • Auto
 • Preset:
       • Sunny
       • Cloudy
       • Incandescent
       • Fluorescent
 • Manual: 'One Touch WB'

Fine tune the current white balance by +/- 7 levels (plus towards blue, minus towards red). Live preview image is shown in window so you can instantly see the effect of the WB adjustment.

Control the amount if in-camera sharpening applied to the image:

 • Hard
 • Normal
 • Soft

Control the contrast curve applied to the image before it is saved:

 • High
 • Normal
 • Low
