Olympus C-5050 Zoom Review
Compared to the Canon PowerShot G3
While we wouldn't normally compare two cameras with different resolutions this comparison has been strongly requested and so I chose to add it. The PowerShot G3 has a four megapixel CCD and a four times optical zoom lens, compared to the C-5050 Zoom's five megapixel CCD and a three times optical zoom lens.
Studio scene comparison
- Olympus C-5050 Zoom: Aperture Priority, ISO 64, Default Parameters
Contrast, Saturation), Manual preset white balance, Exposure Compensation: +0.3 EV
- Canon PowerShot G3: Aperture Priority, ISO 50, Default Parameters (Sharpness, Contrast, Saturation), Manual preset white balance, Exposure Compensation: +0.3 EV
|Olympus C-5050 Zoom||Canon PowerShot G3|
|ISO 64, 1/3 sec, F4.5||ISO 50, 1/3 sec, F4.5|
|2,536 KB JPEG||1,644 KB JPEG|
As we would expect the C-5050 Zoom exhibits more resolution that the G3, that said the four megapixel G3 does do very well in this comparison with noticeably lower noise and no visible sharpening or demosaic artifacts. In a couple of places the C-5050 Zoom's color balance proved to be more accurate (the orange crayon in the last crop for instance).
