Leica M8 vs. Nikon D200

Leica M8
Nikon D200
3,317 KB JPEG (3936 x 2624)
4,236 KB JPEG (3827 x 2592)

With its default overly conservative sharpening the D200 simply looks soft by comparison, with the M8 delivering a much crisper detailed image. However as we noted in our D200 review you really have to turn its sharpening setting to 'High' to get see its potential (below).

Leica M8 vs. Nikon D200 (High sharpening)

Leica M8
Nikon D200 (High sharpening)
3,317 KB JPEG (3936 x 2624)
4,586 KB JPEG (3827 x 2592)

Turning the D200's sharpening setting to its maximum ('High') and things improve considerably, with levels of detail between the two cameras almost identical, the biggest difference being the M8's less saturated color, its subtle processing artifacts and the sharpening artifacts which have crept into the D200 image.
