In low light the iPhone 7 Plus again manages a good exposure and deals well with the brightness differences on our chart. Noise is visible but well under control. On the downside, the Apple device again captures noticeably softer edges and lower levels of detail than some high-end competitors. The Google Pixel XL for example shows noticeably better detail and more finely grained noise. To a lesser degree the same is true for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Huawei P9.

The converted Raw files show how much noise there actually is in the captured data, which, to a degree explains the relatively low levels of detail. The JPEG engine has to apply a lot of noise reduction to achieve an acceptably clean image.
