Image Quality Compared: Flash Portrait

We set this basic portrait shot up in low artificial light, provided by a single tungsten bulb - roughly equivalent to low indoor lighting. The HTC One X automatically chooses among five different output levels for its LED-powered flash based on camera to subject distance. And in this close-up portrait it does a very good job of evenly illuminating the scene. We're not very keen on the heavy magenta skin tone, though. The Nokia 808, powered by a proper xenon unit of the sort found on most conventional cameras, delivers the most accurate color, and you can see for yourself how artificially warm both the One X and iPhone 5 render the scene. Both are preferable, however, to the refrigerated blue color cast of the Samsung Galaxy SIII.
