In low light the Google Pixel again just edges the competition in terms of captured image detail. However, it does so at the cost of slightly higher luminance noise levels. The Samsung Galaxy S7, for example, delivers a noticeably cleaner image than the Google but smears more low-contrast detail. The Microsoft Lumia 950 finds a good compromise, with only marginally lower levels of detail than the Pixel XL but a noticeably cleaner image. Which approach you prefer is pretty much a matter of personal choice, but there is no doubt the Google Pixel XL output in low light is currently among the very best in the smartphone camera bracket.
