The MX2900 is a solid, reliable if a little quirky 2.3 megapixel digicam, operationally it feels a little slower than the competition (Nikon Coolpix 950, Oly C2000Z, Sony F505). The focus mechanism is pretty noisy and reminds me of the Canon Pro 70. "thrzzt thrzzz thrzzt thrzzt click".
My few gripes
- No live display of exposure information on the LCD
- Have to go into the menu system to alter aperture or shutter priority settings
- No control over ISO sensitivity
- Noisy focus mechanism
- Fairly heavy build for featureset (Canon S10 anyone?)
- Long shutter lag (~0.4 s)
- Slow image storage
- Slow operation in playback

File Size Notes: All file sizes as an average of three files. As is the case with JPEG it's difficult to predict the size of an image because it will vary wildly depending on the content of the image (especially the amount of detail captured). For example, take a photograph of a fairly empty wall and you'll get a small JPEG, take a photograph of a bush with a lot of detail and you'll get a larger image. File sizes here are closer to the later, the larger size of file you should expect.
The estimated number of images per 8 MB SmartMedia card is given as a guide to beginners (as an 8 MB SmartMedia card is supplied with the camera).

Battery life was overall pretty good, the MX2900 features a large Lithium-Ion battery which lasts very well, around an hours shooting with the LCD on and half an hour more without. Kudos to Fuji for making the battery a "non problem" by installing a good rechargeable and making charging the camera as easy as plugging in the AC adapter.
