24MP APS-C CMOS sensor | Hybrid AF system | Oversampled 4K video

What we like:

  • Beautiful out-of-camera JPEGs
  • Enormous, bright display
  • Easy-to-use touchscreen interface
  • Headphone socket

What we don't:

  • Dial and joystick placement not ideal
  • Can't select an AF point when a face is detected
  • Below average battery life
  • Unimpressive 1080 video quality
The Fujifilm X-T200 is an inexpensive mirrorless camera with a 24MP APC-C sensor, an enormous 3.5" touchscreen and the ability to capture high quality 4K video.
The X-T200 is centered around an easy-to-use touch-based interface on its fully articulated LCD. The smartphone-like interface lets beginners, in most cases, avoid using dials and menus. The camera's EVF is on the small side, but still good enough for outdoor shooting. The placement of the controls - especially the joystick - aren't ideal.
We think the X-T200 is a well-designed camera that will especially appeal to those upgrading from smartphones.
Generally speaking, the X-T200 has good autofocus performance. It can detect faces quickly, though it can misidentify objects as faces. Subject tracking is reasonable, but not class-leading. The camera can shoot at 8 fps with continuous AF, but the buffer isn't huge. The X-T200's battery life rating of 270 shots per charge is below average. USB charging is appreciated.
The image quality on the X-T200 is very good. Keeping with Fujifilm tradition, JPEG colors are great right out of the camera. Noise levels are competitive with the best of its peers, and there's low enough noise that you can often brighten Raw images without any problem.
The X-T200's 4K video quality is excellent, with good detail and little rolling shutter. Unfortunately, 1080 video isn't nearly as impressive. At that resolution an effect 'digital gimbal' feature greatly improves stabilization, though the scene is cropped. Having a headphone jack (in addition to a mic socket) is a rarity in this class, and is a big plus in our opinion.
Overall, the Fujifilm X-T200 is a very good entry-level mirrorless camera. Photo and 4K image quality are solid, its touch interface works well, and its broad feature set makes it a good value for the money.
