The fixed lens camera market may be a bit niche, but it's here that you'll find some of the best cameras you can buy. Sensors ranging from APS-C format to full-frame are designed to match their lenses (which cover ranges from 28-75mm equiv.) so image quality is top-notch.

This segment includes both pocketable models without viewfinders and 'best worn over your shoulder' cameras with unique or ultra-high-resolution EVFs. There's a gigantic spread in pricing, as well. The Ricoh GR II can be had for under $600, while the Leica Q sells for around $4250.

Our pick: Fujifilm X100F

The Fujifilm X100F offers a great balance of image quality, design and price. The 24MP sensor generates flexible Raw files, but it's Fujifilm's excellent JPEG engine that's the star of the show. The lens is sharp (unless shot close-up and wide-open) and the new, larger battery has the added bonus of speeding up focus.

The X100F's hybrid viewfinder, combined with extensive external controls and allied with great image output, make it a compelling camera to shoot with and among our favorites in any category.

While the X100F was our favorite camera of the bunch, the cameras below are also worthy of your consideration:
